WD MyCloud does not work with Acronis TI 2014 from Windows 8.1

Thread needs solution

My older Network attached Seagate drive worked fine for a few years, but then died. Bought a Western Digital 2 TB My Cloud or MyCloud drive to replace it. Since then my Win 8.1 system can't use it as it gets security errors either when starting or when going back to Validate. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. No where can I find if this drive works with Acronis. Can someone help please?

WD My Cloud devices use a linux file system. They must be accessed via SAMBA connection. This creates an issue with file sharing permissions. If you have setup homegroup on your machine you will need leave the homegroup as a first step. After that follow the steps in this article to get thinhs working.

I have a WD MyCloud 4TB and I can backup and validate fine with Acronis from Windows 8.1. Everything works well here. The big problem is that you cannot restore! The recovery CD will deem your archive corrupted. When this happens from Windows 8.1 (for those who don't listen and try to recover from Windows, the archive failure leaves the computer in unstable boot state and creates a big mess).
The workaround is to copy the archive to a USB disk and then do the restore. Needless to say, this is an issue with the MyCloud! Copying a large or a series of archives can create corruption issues, but it worked well for me for a while.
BTW, I gave up on the WD MyCloud for this and other reasons.
