Hello Richard,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here.

NonStop Backup service is responsible for the NonStop Backup functionality. If you're not using this option, you can disable this service in the control panel.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

I could use some help on stopping the nonstop backup as well. Can you give specific instructions for use with Windows 7 Home Premium OS? My computer would not allow a clean removal of my WD Passport because the nonstop was running. I'd like to disable it. I haven't found an easy way. Many thanks.

Brian,

Search your computer for services.msc
Click on the search result link
You will see a list of services.
Right click on Acronis Non Stop Backup service, choose properties
On the "general" tab, click the drop down menu for the start up type: choose disabled
Close the properties windows
In the upper left, choose stop the service or simply reboot the computer.

You can also stop the Acronis synchronization service if you don't use it.

I discourage you from disabling other services.

Thanks Pat L., I'll give that a shot.
BTW:Any idea on how I get my last name removed from my posts? Usually when one signs up for discussion pages you are warned if the last name will be used. I went into "My Account" and didn't see any way to change the name. Perhaps I should cancel the account and start over?
I'll report back on the solution's results. Thanks again.

Go to My Account > Edit > Personal Information. It should let you change your nickname there.

Hi Yana, are you 100% sure, that this service ist definitly only needed when using NonstopBackup ? (I ask, because somwhere else in the forum (don't remember exactly where) someone mentioned, it would be needed for TnD, too ?!)

Thanks for the help, folks. I'm now in the process of wiping my Passport clean from the backup from my old computer, which now has slave and master hard drives, both having nearly duplicate information, etc.
It seems to be taking a long time but also doesn't seem to be using a lot of resources while it scrubs away. It may also be that my new Dell computer only has 2.0 USB's in it. Perhaps a 3.0 would be faster.
After it's complete, I'll backup my new hard drive onto the 500GB Passport. I'll report back on the results. Thanks again.

Well, the method supplied seemed to do the trick. Thanks. I'll have to make a note of where I went and what I did, just in case I need to change it. Thanks again.

I'm having the same problem. No keystroke combination will stop the backup. It's been running for hours (and there's only 100GB of data on the whole hard drive); I want to remove the external drive but I cannot do it safely.

I have the trial version of Acronis True Image 2014, and Win 7 Home Premium. At 2 am, I told the computer to shut down. It's 6am and it's still running, blue light blinking on the external drive (which was never intended to hold a backup, it has other data). I am NOT very happy with my trial version at this point.

If the backup ever ends, I will reconfigure the backup; I do NOT want it running when I tell the computer to turn off -- what if I were on a plane or in another situation where the computer MUST be turned off? (Or if it were simply not plugged in...by now the battery would be long dead.)

I am posting these comments from my Mac.
