What Acronis software can do an image of my HD, and makes possible to restore it from an external USB HD?
Hi,
I am very interested in some Acronis software to make images of my entire hard disk. I have an external HD drive, and would like to know "if" and "what" is the best product which would allows me to send images of my internal HD to my external USB drive, and if can I, after this, restore the image from this USB drive.
I would be very grateful for any help. :)

If you want run ATI and have it make the backup image (the *.tib file) on a usb, that is generally possible, as is running ATI and selecting a tib file on a usb and using that to retore to another disk. Make sure the USB is plugged in before you start ATI for the restore. You should be able to do this whther starting ATI form within win or from the ati bootCD. I recommend using the BootCD for the restore, sinc ethemachine is going to have to reboot if you start in windows anyway so you might as well jsut start with the bootcd for the restore.
also note that yo can find the user guide here:

Thanks again, Scott,
But, supposing the image is on my USB hard drive. Will I be able to restore it to my HD using ATI?
Thanks again. :)

When you make a backup of a disk, ati puts the image in a file with an extension of "tib". This backup file can be on any valid disk, inlcuding USB drives.

I understood.
But, the restoring process of this .tib file: how is made that? I need to re-install Windows? Or can I set up my machine to boot from the USB drive, and so start from there the restoring proccess?
Sorry for so many questions. :(

You don't need to boot form usb. you need to boot fromthe bootcd that you made with ati. then follow them enus to seleec the file to restore from and where to restore to. Before doing this you should read the user guide.

Let me see if I understood: I will have two files. A file on my USB external drive, and a file on a CD/DVD. I boot from the CD/DVD and after this choose the USB drive to proceed with the procedure. Is this correct? :)

The CD is the TI Rescue Media. This CD can be created using TI or you can download the ISO file from your Acronis account and create the CD from it using any ISO capable burning program (Windows 7 has this built in).
You would boot the TI CD and start TI. Once in TI, you would select to do a Restore and then select the backup image saved on the USB drive.
If you are unfamiliar with the general restore procedures I suggest you look at some of Grover's guides (section 7A, for example). They contain a screenshots and instructions on several common procedures.

Hi,
Thank you. Now I think I understood all the proccess. :)

I think it is clear that you have not read the instructions and this is not going to help you. ATI is not difficult to use, but a basic understanding of how to operate the program is key to using it successfully.
Make a bootcd with ATI
Make your backup and save it to any disk you want other than the source disk.
Boot with BootCd, this will run the ati program without running windows.
when ati is loaded, use the restore function to restore the backup file to the desired disk.

Hello Scott,
Sorry.
I will read the instructions, and I think now I understood the process.
I was afraid the features were similar to some "disaster recovery" features some backup softwares has, as Genie Timeline, for example. And this is not what I need. I think ATI is the perfect solution.
Thank you. :)
