where to buy Universal Restore for True Image Home 2011

Thread needs solution

I need to move a win7 machine to new hardware and various google searches seen to indicate that Acronis Universal restore can do the job. I have image backups made with True Image Home 2011 and need to find out where to buy the corresponding Universal Restore.  I found a few websites that said Acronis sold Universal Restore and it can now be downloaded for free, but I'm skeptical...  don't want to download any virus containing software.  Can anybody advise?

Ron, welcome to these user forums.

Assuming that you are going to invest in a new computer to replace your Windows 7 computer, then I would recommend investing a little more and buying a licence for the current ATIH 2017 which includes Acronis Universal Restore, but would also suggest considering moving away from your old Windows 7 and going with Windows 10, especially if this comes preinstalled and activated with this new OS.

If you do decide to try to migrate your old Windows 7 to new hardware, then you need to understand that it is not guaranteed that Acronis Universal Restore will be able to do this without significant action by yourself to get this to work.  One of the first challenges that you will face is that your old computer is most likely to be booting via a Legacy BIOS process, but the majority of new computers have moved on to using UEFI in place of BIOS, so you would need to ensure that the new computer would support booting in Legacy / CSM mode.  The next challenge will be the disk controller mode used on the old and new computers which needs to be the same.

One further point, it is unlikely that if you were able to get hold of Universal Restore for ATIH 2011 that this would work successfully with the hardware now found in new computers give the program is from 6+ years ago and so much has changed.
