Why is booting from the installation disk the only thing that allows Acronis to see my eSata drive?

Thread needs solution

I have tried all variations of the .iso files to make rescue discs, none of them work without an error.

However if I boot to SAFE MODE or FULL VERSION from the Acronis install disc it gives no error and works as it should.

Today a friend brought over his eSata cable and external drive to try on my machine, we got the same results. IE: all 5 of the rescue disks gave an error message. But of course the install disc worked fine.

The only way my rescue discs work NOW, is if I use a USB cable to the external drive. Again this flies in the face of reason, why does USB work and not eSata when it's been proven that the cabling and the HD are good.

Windows sees the eSata drive just fine and allows me to read from it and write to it with no problem.

I have already re-installed Acronis and the update once, do I need to do it again using REVO Uninstaller? Or is there a cleanup program from Acronis I can use?

Remember only a week ago I was able to use the rescue disc(s) with eSata and now they won't work. The people at Asus assure me that the eSata port isn't at fault, otherwise it wouldn't work at all..

Can someone please tell me how to fix this mess?

Thank you,

F Wolf

Hi Gary,

In a word "no." I don't see why I should have to add things to a rescue disc that worked fine until last week. I saw BartPE and WinPE on the download area but didn't know what they do so I have never tried them.

How does adding these things to the rescue disc make it work better?

thank you,

F Wolf

Better driver support than provided by the Linux based versions. Just a thought - you can ignore my suggestion. They are not "added" to a rescue discc- they are separate systems that provide alternative bootable environments based on Windows APIs and drivers, and you have to build the ISO image files yourself. WinPE sometimes solves some driver issues, that's all.

Gary,

Thank you for the information if all else fails I might have to try your helpful tutorial on how to make an .iso file for WinPE. What I can't seem to get anyone to understand is that the TI rescue disks worked FINE, until last week. Something is giving me an error report that stops me accessing the eSata drive. It's not that the discs didn't work ever, they worked fine now they don't.

That's what I can't get tech support or anyone else to acknowledge. It's been proven it's not my eSata cable. or drive or my MB.

Other than using Revo Uninstaller to remove TI HOME is there a more thorough cleanup utility that will work with TI 2010? I see there are some for other versions but I'm not sure if they are made to work with TI 2010.

F Wolf

There is a cleanup utility for TI2010, but I don't have the infomation at my fingertips. Someone else can point you to them.

I understand your frustration over the sudden change, but I can't help this issue. My suspicion is still a driver issue (which can act very flaky), and my solution is to avoid these by using WinPE, which is how I use TI exclusively since I am concerned only with disk images, not file-level backup, so it suits my needs fine. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help.
