Why does Editing a scheduled task want to replace the most recent backup

Thread needs solution

Every time I want to edit a scheduled Acronis TI 2010 task, it prompts me to replace the most recent backup .tib file? If I click Cancel, it goes to the Backup Wizard where I can make changes but when I then run it, it starts over with a new full backup.

When I edit a task, I want it to affect the next backup, not replace an existing one.

Hello Ztruker,

Thank you very much for your post. I will definitely help you with this.

This happens because of an issue in our product. I do not have any information about a timeframe when this will be resolved but I would like to share with you with this workaround.

When you get the prompt to overwrite a backup press Ok - > Archive location - > Add to existing - > Backup archive - > Backup locations - > Browse - > and navigate to the backup file from which you would like to continue the backups. I would recommend to select the full backup, because if you select another incremental you will start getting additional (1) numbers to the backup file name.

I will update this thread if I have additional information.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

Ztruker,
It is best not to edit a task. It is better to create a new task with the new settings.

If you feel you must edit the task, then be sure the initial settings are to add to an existing task.

Anton has described this very accurately above. You will point TI to the full backups and it should suggest the correct increment. If it does not, then change the increment number to the correct number. The first number for an incremental or differentail backup willl be the base name with a 2 added at the end.

I do not have 2010 installed so diffucult to give you more specifics.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to the posts here. I never received any notification an update had occurred (yes, I have Notify me when new comments are posted checked). Also, I've been working with Acronis support since 11/16 to figure out why my Online Backup is not working.

I've had at least 6 live chats with 4 different people. None were able to help. I almost got elevated to 2nd level support but never quite made it there. Then, last Thursday, Dec 9th, Online backup ran to completion. It took over 9 hours to complete since it had not run successfully since 10/31/2010 (I didn't notice until 11/16/2010 which is when I started using Live chat). It has now completed successfully 4 nights in a row so whatever was causing the problem seems to have mysteriously disappeared. I wonder if they moved me to a new server?

Anyway, that's my excuse for not getting back here sooner.

I still don't understand why changing some of the backup options, not the content of what gets backed up, needs to replace an existing backup. When I do this, the next backup is a full backup, even though I may have as many as 5 incremental backup already completed based off the current full backup. I did also end up with the additional number 2

I do understand what Anton said though and hope this gets fixed soon. Is it any better in ATI 2011 (I have ATI 2010)?
