Will have to uninstall ATI 2011, because I cannot shut down computer - Can I get money back

Thread needs solution

I have posted the above problem, but I have not received a reply. Whenever, I run a backup with ATI2011, I cannot shut down my computer. The notice appears, that ATI is performing Operations and the computer will shut down automatically. It does not shut down at all and keeps going. I will have to uninstall ATI 2011 pluspack and reinstall 2010. I have used ATI for years, but this version seems to have a problem. How do I get my money back for the Upgrade. Helga P.S. When I manually shut down ADM shows it as a critical problem.

Yes, some users have seen this issue. It happens when there is a rogue validation task going on.
Try this:
- disable validation for that backup:
- go the backup options,
- go to the "advanced" tab,
- clear "validate after backup"
- click on "enable scheduled validation" or on the schedule you have set up,
- in the validation schedule, uncheck all boxes in the advanced settings, click OK
- back the "advance > Validation", on click on Do Not Schedule
- Before clicking on OK, go back the "backup scheme" tab of the backup options
- Click OK
- Save your backup
- verify that your computer shuts down normally in general and after your backup,
- if not, there are a couple of things to clean up further:
- Download the Acronis schedmgr utility from Acronis http://kb.acronis.com/content/1859
- zap all the tasks (see the kb article)
- in c:\programsdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts, delete all the files there (in c:\documents and settings\all users\Application Data\... in Win XP)

At this point we have eliminated any risk there is some rogue validation task going on. You will have to reschedule your backup task. You can also try to validate after the backup or separately and see if the issue comes back.

Hi Pat, the problem seems to be that I have never validated backups and I have never ticked the box. I just backup "C"-Drive to my second drive, but I am mainly interested in the files, because I also have a portable drive and I have most files on my laptop as well. I also do not schedule backups, but just backup with Acronis once a week or so. So there are no schedules. I have Windows 7 and I just looked at Acronis. I cannot find the Advanced settings either. However, I can find "no validation" under Operations. I will download the above utility. Thanks for your help. Helga

Hi Pat, your suggestions worked. I downloaded the utility and followed the advice and I also delete the Programme Data. Thanks so much. I hope it will work in future. At least I am now able to shut down my computer. Helga

Helga,
The advanced option Pal L was speaking about is listed on the Schedule screen.

You may not have scheduled validations but Acronis knows better(?) so they scheduled it for you as the defaut setting. The default is set to monthly. In order to completely turn off validation, the user must open "Disk backup options", select the validation tab, and click on the "monthly" option and change it to "do not schedule". This edit will be necessary for each task that you create for any type backup.

Before saving the changes, return to the "Backup schemes" tab along the top and do the save with the "Backup schemes" options visible.

Hi Grover, thanks as well. I have copied above suggestion and I will follow it, when I do the next backup. I have nothing against validations, but I do not want to finish up with the "operations" blocking the shut down of my computer. Helga P.S. At the moment there is no problem.
