Will Restore fix system problems?

Thread needs solution

Hi: I did a full backup in January. I'm having some serious system problems involving permissions to use folders; ability to install some programs and other stuff. I'm unable to fix any of this so far. At the moment, I'm thinking of either a clean install of Windows 7 or use my last full backup (which, although a long time ago, really isn't too bad a date -- at least I know it was before the problems started).

Anyway, will this solve my problems? Will it only restore data and programs and not system files? This particular disk has only programs, the system (W7). Most all work data is on another disk.

thanks,

George

It depends what you backed up. If you created a full disk backup, selecting the checkbox for the entire disk (not just individual partitions), then you'd have everything you needed. You could do a full disk restore, and select to restore disk signature, and everything would return to as it was in January.

A restore wil repalce everything on the disk with the contents of the backup.

My suggestion would be to try the restore first. If that is not the solution, then you could reinstall the os and then restore C only to get it bafk to what it was on day of backup.

Check link #3 below which includes items #2 (disk option restore) and #3 which is the restore of C only.

Thanks to both of you for answers. I'll try the restore first and see what happens.
