Win 8 asks me to uninstall ATIH 2012!
Hi,
I downloaded Windows 8 Pro this morning. I've tried all day to install it but I can't. First thing Win 8 is telling me is uninstall Acronis True Image Home 2012. It starts the install then it stays at about 5% done. It stays there for hours if I don't stop it. I've restarted the computer many times. I've tried in no fail mode. I've tried to uninstall with CCCleaner. Nothing works. So I have a brand new Windows and I cannot install it. Thanks!
Any tips?
Thanks

Yes and yes. As soon as Win 8 starts the install, it is asking me to uninstall Acronis because it is non compatible. I try to uninstall and it sort of stays at about 5% uninstalled for ever.

Find your installation file for 2012, and run it. Select repair install and let that finish. Reboot your system, then run the installation file a second time, and select remove/un-install. After that download the Acronis True Image Cleanup utility from here: https://kb.acronis.com/system/files/content/2012/08/34876/atih_cleanup_… following the directions here: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876 to remove all traces of 2012. Do not let the cleanup utility reboot your system, instead, check the registry settings for the entries listed, and make the registry changes if necessary, before restarting your system. Then try the Windows 8 upgrade again.

Thanks for your help James F. But two new problems occured. First, I couldn't run the Repair Install. As soon as I ran the installation of Acronis, it started installing it before I had time to press Repair! It drove me crazy! I tried many times, rebooted the computer a number of times, I tried with the original CD: same thing.
So, I tried again to uninstalled it. It said that I was not an administrator so I could not uninstall it! I am the only user of the computer, so I am the administrator.
Then I had an idea (it happens once in a while...). Not sure it will work for someone else, but it did for me. I went in the file in the computer, in Programs, Acronis. There is a file called uninstall.exe. I ran it and it worked.
Then I ran the file you suggested, the cleanup file, I restarted the computer, and now, at last, I am writing this from Windows 8 Pro, yeah!
Thanks again.
I hope Acronis True Image 2012 will update so I can use it with Win 8.
