Win 8.1 64bit Recovery - Actually doesnt Recover anything 6614

Thread needs solution

Hi all

Tearing my hair out here
Just done a new install of Windows 8.1 64bit

First thing to go on was an older version of Acronis 2014 - then did a back up image of the hard drive

Tried installing a few things ie VLC but then thought lets see if the backup works - everything goes through fine booting from a boot cd and doing the recovery process however the files and programs that were not part of the image are still there so in fact no recovery has took place.

Thought it maybe an issue with old version of acronis so updated to new version 6614 and followed the exact same process as above - new win8.1 install - do image - install a few apps and then try restoring to see if those apps disappear - again the recovery goes through fine but the apps I installed since the image are still there

Im at a loss???

Anybody else experienced this

Just tried using the recovery option from within Acronis instead of the boot cd

It reboots does the recovery - then tries booting - a quick flash come up there was a problem and restarts and again boots to windows with programs installed that shouldn't be there - suppose its the wrong forum but does anybody have any other recommendations for imaging windows 8.1

Update: OK Ive now tried the exact same process on my laptop with a single ssd drive

Acronis works with no issues - great

So for some reason its not working correctly on the missus laptop

She had a Inspiron 14z with a 32gb msata cache drive and a normal 500gb drive

Any ideas anyone.......no idea why this is happening

Most likely it's due to cache drive. It's not recognized from bootable media and only the main hdd is restored. See also - http://forum.acronis.com/forum/35729

That link isn't working for me - says im unauthorised - so is Acronis not compatible with cache drives??

Is there a way around it ??

Thanks

Well ive managed to find away around this

Im my case I disabled RST in Windows then did a backup image - installed a few apps and then restored the PC with RST still disabled in WINDOWS only not in the bios and it worked - the apps I installed after the image were gone!! Yay

Im not sure if you have to disable RST when doing the image (which I did) or you have to disable just when restoring the image

Either way its just a couple of click and it works
