Win 8.1 Pro Cloning Laptop Hard Drives Fails: Runtime Exception Failed to find code 1101838, tag xxxxxxxxxxxx

Thread needs solution

Ok I have had good success with Acronis Cloning using Windows Xp and Win 7 64 bit. Tried to clone Win 8.1 Pro today and rec'd above message. There was one thread saying cloning is no longer the preferred method. Yet when you goto the documentation FAQ for cloning Laptop hard drive to ssd drive it says to use the CLONING METHOD. It doesn't say to not use this or not to try this first.

So where in the FAQs or documentation can I find the preferred method to clone the actual steps needed.

Vague references to do a PC Backup and then restore from there are not helpful. Tried this but it does not recognize the external SSD drive attached to USB port as a target to restore to.

It seems like with Win 8.1 Acronis does not have a good solution for cloning the existing hard drive to an SSD drive.

Any help would be appreciated and I would prefer either step by step replies or a link to an actual document that describes step by step on how to overcome the above problem with Win 8.1.

I got the answer I was looking for and hopefully this will help others with the same problem. Called Intel Tech support and they confirmed they have had numerous customers call and report the same problem using the Intel supplied Acronis software to clone Intel SSD drives under Windows 8.1 Pro.

Intel advised that there will be an updated Acronis version shortly on their website that will resolve this issue.

Just to confirm here I tried the supplied version on Intel's website and I also paid for a 3 Computer Version of TrueImage 2015 and this version
also failed.

In the meantime Intel suggests using EaseUS Todo Backup Free as they are testing with this in their labs and they have no problems using this even with Windows 10.

It will be interesting if Acronis even replies to this or even confirms these known issues and pending fixes. Now I have to decide if I want to get a refund for the TrueImage 2015?

Did chat support with India case # 02346700 and they refused to acknowledge there is known issue cloning Win 8.1 Pro and to escalate this known issue (according to Intel) they would require me to generate a bunch of reports.

Don't have further time to waste spinning my wheels and I cannot support a company that does not care enough about their customers to admit to their known defects in their product. Therefore I will request a refund today and try EaseUS Todo backup which Intel support recommended.

I have already requested a refund so not going to try the following as I am now using EaseUS which worked no problem. Hopefully the reply from Acronis support below will help others that are facing the same issue cloning laptop hard drives.
