Windows 7 backup across network

Thread needs solution

Backup of laptop booted from Acronis Recovery disk to a removable hard disk on desktop machine running Windows 7 Ultimate will not work because the drive cannot be seen. Drive is a SATA drive in AHCI mode and can be seen from Windows on the laptop (Windows 7 Professional).

Do I have to run Acronis from Windows to make this work?

Hello Earl,

I'll surely help you and resolve the issue.

  1. Could you please clarify: how did you try to access the drive where you want to store the backups? Please try to use a full UNC path, e.g. \\server\share
  2. Please try to use a special version of the bootable media based on ISOLINUX bootloader. ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released. ISOLINUX Bootable Media has several boot parameters that may help overcome possible issues with booting. You can also set a specific VGA resolution in the ISOLINUX media if there an issue with the Graphical User Interface (GUI). You can download this new media from your account, please check this KB article for more information.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you.
