Windows 7 backup still running behind ATIH

Thread needs solution

ATIH is working fine for me and doing everyback of my C: and D: drives to an external 1TB drive (F:). Incremental dailies with full backup every 6 days with cleanup.

However, once a month or so Windows 7 still does its full system C: drive backup to F:. I can't see where this is coming from and it's filling up my external drive. I can't see into Windows Backup because Acronis has 'taken over' this function. How can I turn off the Windows Backup?

Go to the top right menu in ATI, choose integrate ATI into Windows, uncheck the control panel. Close ATI. You should be able to access Windows Backup and disable it.
NB: if you have Win7 ultimate or enterprise, I would still do a Windows backup from time to time onto another backup disk (see backup diversification).

i have a similar problem: ATIH 2011 seemed to have been working just fine for me, so why i recklessly decided to usurp it with W7's native backup (Ultimate x64) is a mystery even to me; W7's backup appears to me to be buggy.

following the instructions in other forum posts, i integrated ATIH into Windows, and indeed, it appears in Control Panel -- but it does not function: ATIH does not recognize *any* partition (see attached .png)

how can i put things as before: remove Windows's native as a backup option; and restore ATIH 2011 to full functionality? should i uninstall and reinstall ATIH 2011?

Neal,

Saw your post in the 2011 forum. This forum is for 2012.
Wrt to your problem, are you saying that ATI is not working when you launch it from the control panel, but working when you launch the program? If yes, I'd suppose that uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling might just fix this issue.

i am just now -- 22 june -- seeing your answer: acronis's email notification machinery is unreliable.

my original ATIH2011 installation had apparently been corrupted by my invocation of Win7 x64's native backup -- i think i recklessly configured W7 native backup to override my ATIH -- i don't know why i did something as reckless as that.

as per the screen shots included in my 2011 forum post, the corrupted ATIH no longer registered the partition or disk that was to be imaged.

after uninstall-and-reinstall, ATIH now runs like a champion.

i add that w7 x64's native bu is buggy and seems to me to be much less efficient than ATIH.

Pat, what's the difference in Windows backup with Win7 Ultimate or Enterprise? I've read negative comments about Windows backup from Microsoft MVPs, related to how not everything may be captured and difficulties in restoring, such that they recommend other solutions (such as ATIH). Those comments may have related to Win 7 Home Premium though, so is the backup better in Ultimate or Enterprise?

The backup in Ultimate and Enterprise include system imaging capabilities,as well as the ability to store the backup on the network: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Backup

The imaging software create VHD files. Windows Backup archive previous versions with shadow copies on the backup disk, using block-level technology for the backup file.

You can use WIndows installation DVD or F8 to restore the image.

Compared with ATIH, you have a slower backup, less control over the retention rules (shadow copies), fewer backup options, etc.

I have had no issues at all with Window Backup images on several machines. But as you know, your imaging software mileage may vary with your disk type, configuration, partitions, etc. Acronis and Windows Backup are no exceptions, I guess...
