Windows XP getting stuck in Logo Screen after Universal Restore in Newer Hardware.

Thread needs solution

We recently acquired the TIH2011 Plus Pack - Bought online. I did my first full disk backup in the intented machine which has XP Home SP3. I used the universal restore feature to install in a newer computer. I put the newest Chipset Drivers for XP in the Driver Manager section.

Everything seemed right. The only message I am getting is that it couldn't find the driver for "**upnp..." (something). But I read before that no Plug and Play devices are supported, so I ignored.

I reboot and the computer gets stuck in the Windows XP logo (the bar keeps moving always - it does not freeze) and never boots up. Not able to boot in VGA mode, but it does in Safe Mode; there I was able to install the Video, Audio and Network drivers, and actually, re-install the chipset drivers. No errors showed in the Device Manager. All devices shown as OK.

Tried updates. Removed SP3 and used a XP Home SP2 CD to update and reenter the Windows key (since I thought it was a License issue). No luck. It still hangs in the XP Logo. I am able to load the Safe Mode.

I just though of it: New hardware is Dual Core 64-bit; Old Hardware is, well, just 32-bit. The Chipset Drivers install right. Just fine. The Chipset drivers are for XP 32-bit and show no errors when install.

I've already put much time on this. I hope someone could guide me on what else can I try. The Safe Mode works just great and no errors shown. No BSOD neither.

(Both Old and New HDDs are SATA). Please instruct in possible BIOS Settings changes needed.

Thanks in advance.

You are good shape, believe it or not.

The way to debug your situation is to:
- launch msconfig,
- disable all startup items and all non-microsoft services.

Restart, if the computer boots normally,
- launch msconfig,
- enable the first half of the non-microsoft services.

If it doesn't boot,
- launch msconfig,
- enable only the first quarter of the non-microsoft services.

Proceed with the dichotomy until you find the conflict.

Thank you Pat L...

I disabled all services and startup items and nothing: stuck at the Windows XP logo screen (blue bar moving).

So, I am still able to go in the Safe Mode... No normal boot up.

Something else I could check?

Thanks you all.

Did you try disabling the microsoft services as well?

If the problem exist after disabling all services, this is most likely a driver issue. Check your device manager and disable devices until you find the driver that is causing problem.

Pat.

I did so now, and still not being able to boot on normal mode.
Please, advice more troubleshooting.

Thanks.

Can you repair install XP? You need the installation DVD to do so.

I did it.

I tried that. Ended up like this:
After the repair copies the files, it needs to reboot, right? Reboots and it does the same: hangs at the XP logo. If I try to enter the Safe Mode, it will say the setup cannot continue in Safe Mode, so it reboots after I "OK" the message. And It will hang in the XP Logo. Same happens if I try to make an upgrade in Safe Mode using the XP SP2 disc. So the last time I recovered with Acronis, has been the third.

What else can be tried?

Thank you for your assistance.

I found this link helps going through methodical troubleshooting:

I think I might have found the issue. I "disabled" the Acronis Backup Archive Explorer "Device" from the Device Manager. Now The computer reboots after a quick flash of the XP Logo. It happens in all modes.

Suggestions? Maybe uninstall acronis from Safemode? I think I will have to re restore the image.

Thanks.

Pd: From your last post, Pat, I basically have tried all those in the article. Thanks though. :)
