Why create a virtual "local disk" ?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

When I created backups for my mobile devices, ATI created a "local disk" (M:) that obviously points to the folder I specified for storing these backups. Why is this needed ? Just to allow quicker access to the backup folder ?

Thanks.

Moreover, permissions cannot be changed on this virtual disk. When trying to "backup the backups" to another device with a sync tool, access is denied.

Very frankly, I don't see the benefit.

Using Windows 10 Pro 1511

Patrick, please see KB 59584: Acronis True Image 2017: how to change Acronis Drive letter which provides some more information on the new Acronis Drive (M:) that is created by Mobile Backup.  This is intended to provide quicker / easier access to your mobile backup image files as far as I understand and is only normally present if you have created any .TIBX backup files.

Thanks.

There is no such option in my version of ATI Home 2017. What is ATI 2017 new generation ?

Patrick, ATIH 2017 New Generation is the Premium, Subscription only option which includes ransomware protection via the Acronis Active Protection function of the product.

The Standard (perpetual or subscription) version of the product is version that most users have where build #8029 is the latest update.  For ATIH 2017 NGen the latest build is #6116.

>>>please see KB 59584

That KB explains how to change the drive letter - not how to get rid of it nor why it is necessary. The ATIH App should be able to open and process the .tibx archive just like one does witth .tib archives... why force user to make it so complicated?  My simple goal is to have the mobile backup archive on my NAS.
