Migrate Easy7 Freezes Up Source Disk

Thread needs solution

I just purchased Migrate Easy to clone a critical Windows '98 disk drive from a manufacturing machine. Before the drive locked and rebooted before the cloning, a brief message flashed that "an old SYS.ini file was found and you may not have sufficient rights to log back on"...or something to that effect. When it rebooted, there was nothing but a black screen with "Acronis" and a blinking cursor at the bottom, and it was completely froze up. I was able to recover it by restoring the registry ( which fortunately I backed up prior to installing the software). I cloned an identical set of disks previously with the trial version. Any thoughts?

Have you tried cloning via the recovery CD that way Windows is involved at any time?

If the Pc is a laptop, it might work better by performing a reverse clone. That is put the source drive in an external caddy and the new drive internally, boot from CD -> clone.

Hey Colin,

That would be really swell, except when I click on "Create Bootable Recovery Media", I get "Runtime error..program files\common files\Acronis\Media Builder.exe..abnormal program termination". (I have probably understated the irony a bit in that, haven't I?) The physical arrangement is pretty straightforward; it's just a simple '98 PC with two 30 gb hard drives, one C: and one clean, formatted, and scanned D: drive. It seems like the install did something odd to my sys.ini file, but since it is not the kind of thing I read before I go to bed at night, I can't be sure where the offending entry might be. Thanks for the tip though... I think this may be one for the authors.

OK,

Is the MediaBuilder file actually installed? It should be, but.....

Have you tried re-installing ME.

I don't have ME itself, but there might be a downloadable ISO of the recovery environment available in your account.
