Acronis True Image 2011 destroy hard disc?

Thread needs solution

Hi, recently I got new computer, i installed Acronis TIH 2011 and created Secure Zone, after restart computer crashed (loading stops on the first screen - the one when you can go to Bios) and nothing worked. I give the computer back to shop and they replaced hard disc. I again installed Acronis and created Secure Zone and everything happened again. After this the man come from the shop with new disc and and installed Acronis himself and AGAIN destroyed hard disc. What is going on?

I'm betting the machine didn't need a new harddisk each time but that was the easiest way for the technician to "fix" the machine or else the technician didn't really know what he was doing. ATI can't physically damage your hard disk. At worst the MBR or boot manager might get corrupted in certain circumstances when installing the Secure Zone and need to be repaired -- replacing the entire hard disk is not a responsible repair -- it's like getting a new engine in your car because it needs a tune up.

One thing you could do is register your ati serial number on acronis.com, go to product updates and download the iso for the bootcd and burn it to cd using any cd burner you have. Then boot with that CD and make a backup of your harddisk to a second harddisk (external USB or second internal harddisk). IF you don't have a second harddisk, get one, it's the most sensible and safe way to store backups. Do a test restore up to but not including the final proceed step. Now you know you can restore your harddisk if anythings happens to it and you won't need to have the harddisk psychically replaced at unnecessary cost.

For installation, I'd do this, I'd use msconfig.exe to disable ALL nonmicrosoft services and ALL startup programs, reboot, install ati and don't create a Secure Zone.

After installing, use msconfig to return to normal startup.

See if you have problem booting still. IF so boot with bootCD and restore your harddisk, take the money you would have paid that technician and buy yourself a nice dinner, then contact tech support via chat. If problem doesn't recur, then continue using program with Secure Zone but using a second hard disk. If you store backups in Secure zone and your hard disk goes bad, you won't be able to restore from the Secure Zone because you need the hard disk working to be able to access it.

If your harddisk is physically going bad, something else causing.
