Backups Not Removing
Folks,
I'm having real problems with True Image 2012 managing my backup files. I have it configured to as an incremental backup method. I want to create a full version after every 5 incremental versions. I want all older backups older than 5 days to be deleted. It is not deleting anything and is exhausting my disk space. I've attached an image of my backup settings and an image of my backup folder. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Joseph, If ultimately, it does not do what you want, consider creating a new task and use the options to keep x number of backup rather than use the option based on time or disk space. Adjust the 6 & 4 example to meet your needs. Additional space temporarily for the an additional backup as no deletion occurs until after the replacement has been created.

Grover,
I'm having the same problem. I have tried the scheme you show above with 6 (incremental versions) and no more than one stored and still, no backup schemes are deleted.
On previous versions of Acronis, it used to delete older backup chains but now it doesn't. I have a 2nd HDD dedicated to backups. It fills up with two version chains then stops creating a new version chain because it's out of space. I haven't found a setting that will delete ANY old version chain.
Is this feature working for anyone else? I want to set my computer to backup and forget about it until I need it.
Thanks in advance...
Ross

Perhaps this could be a space issue.
In order for TI to do what you need to retain 1 backup chain, it needs to have space for
2 Fulls plus allow space for all 6 of the incrementals.
Add up the space requirement for all 8 files and that will be the used space needed on backup disk plus a little extra.
TrueImage will not delete the first backup set (7 files) until the replacement full is completed and correctly written. It does NOT delete the originals until a replacement has been created.
Any change you have a couple large files of folders which could be moved to a DVD or the external disk so they would not be included each time within the backups.
If you are using Windows System Restore, limit the space. Have you checked for any exclusions you can uses?
If you need to make changes in the task, don't. Create a new task and point to a new sub-folder on the external.

Thanks, Grover.
I have a 1TB HDD backup drive and my backup sets are running about 350GB (full + incrementals) each. So, based on what you've told me, it's not supposed delete the first backup set until another complete backup set has been created. Well, it's creating two full backup sets on the external drive (even though I have it set to keep no more than 1) and, when it tries to create the 3rd set, it runs out of space.
I suppose it could be a space issue. I'll add more exclusions to the list and see if I can create enough space to keep a third set and see if that works. I'll let you know how it comes out (but it may be a week or two before I know).
Thanks for your help!

Based on your response, your backup scheme settings would be
Custon
Incremental
Create a full after 6 incrementals
Store no more than 1 recent version chain
The do not delete original is unchecked.
Space requirements should not exceed
...2 Fulls plus allow space for all 6 of the incrementals.
...Add up the space requirement for all 8 files and that will be the used space needed on backup disk plus a little extra.
That space requirement appears to be 350GB (first chain or 7 files) plus <350 GB for next full only.
Or less than 700GB for retain only 1 chain on an ongoing basis.

Hello all,
Thank you for taking the time to share you experiences and provide your personal feedback surrounding the issue of Backup Schemes and their respective Cleanup Rules. I really appreciate the solutions both from our Customers and our MVP GroverH.
Joseph Rebele, I'm curious as to how your backups have been coming along. Will you be so kind as to provide us with updates on the outcome of the application of your Custom Backup Scheme and the aforementioned Version Cleanup Rules.
RND, I would like to further investigate the underlying reason to the malfunctioning of your Version Cleanup operation. If I may suggest, have you tried to update your Acronis True Image Home 2012 to the latest build? If not, please log into your account from here and navigate to the "My Products and Downloads" page and proceed to download the latest build release. An update installation may very well be the single simple solution to your issue.
In case a build update is not the solution for you, I highly advise you to either try to backup a smaller partition (possibly creating a small one for temporary use) or disk, and see how that comes along with the very same backup parameters (Schedule, Backup Scheme, Cleanup Rules), so as to see if it's a storage capacity issue you may be facing.
Additionally, you can collect a System Report from the Help tab through Acronis True Image Home 2012 mainscreen and attach it to your post, so then I can analyse the logs to see if there are any underlying errors that need addressing and, subsequently, provide you the respective solution and the steps to take to resolve your issue.
In general, the different Backup Schemes and their corresponding Cleanup Rules described here in the User Guide may be helpful in terms of better understanding how these features work and deciding what would best suit your own needs.
Should you have any additional questions or require further support, please feel free to contact us by visiting Acronis Customer Central. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
Best regards,
Volkan

I am now having the same problem. It was deleting older versions OK and keeping only 1 previous version as I had specified - its now keeping everything and has almost filled my D Drive and External Hard Drive now as its keeping everything and deleting nothing. It was previously working OK, but isn't any more. Is there a glitch somewhere????

Thank you, Volkan. Here's another glitch. I used the "Check for Updates" feature under the help menu and it tells me I'm using the latest version. However, when I go to "About..." in the help menu, it says the build is #6131. Using your link to updates, the latest version appears to be build #6154 so the "Check for Updates" feature was not correct. I was not using the latest build.
I'm downloading now and we'll see if this helps. I'll keep posting my results.
Thanks!

After reinstalling and re-starting the program, it still says I'm using build #6131.

if using the plus pack, it will need to be updated as well.

Volkan,
Just a quick follow up. I installed the most recent version of ATIH 2012 and started from scratch to build a backup scheme. This time it's all working well now. I specified not to keep any more than two version chains (with 8-incrementals between full versions) and it's automatically deleting the entire chain beyond two version chains so it's backing up on a reliable basis and I don't have to worry any more! Thanks for your help!
