Restore problems - Windows 7 64 bit - TIH2011

Thread needs solution

I have a virus on my PC which prevents booting so I want to restore from a backup taken before that.

I have booted from the Acronis bootable media (USB) and selected the restore wizard.

However, it wants to restore the partion to drive D, not drive C. It doesn't give me the option to select C and makes me specify a new location. The only bit that will go to drive C is the 100MB protected bit.

I don't want to create a new partition, I just want to restore my C drive to how it was before the virus.

Can anyone help please?

if you use the drive letters as your decision point, you will most likely perform a serious user error.

When booted from the bootable CD, if you have non-lettered partitions on your disk, these will be shown with letters whereas this partition is not assigned a drive letter within Windows. This is the difference between the Linux CD software and the Microsoft Windows drive letter assignment differences.

Therefore, your decision about which partition is to be restored has to be based on things like partition size, volume or names, etc. My #3 link will show you how to make your selection is correct.
