cloning and restoring a virtual machine using Acronis True Image Home 2010 and Parallels 5

Thread needs solution

Can someone give me instructions on how to CLONE a virtual OS (Windows 7) powered by Parallels 5 on a Mac? I would like to save the clone to an external hard disk. Also, how does one RESTORE a virtual Windows 7 machine on a Mac with Parallels 5?
The clone would be made using Acronis True Image 2010. Thanks.

I am also interested in this topic. I do know that it won't work with boot camp but "think" it will work with Parallels.

Acronis says this in their KB:

Acronis products do not run under any Windows or Linux operating systems when installed on Apple Mac.

There are at least two reasons for this:

* Apple Mac machines use the EFI bootstrap firmware instead of the BIOS firmware;
* Apple Mac machines use different partitioning principles.

Acronis products will work in virtual environment created by means of Parallels Desktop. In this case, however, using Acronis products you will be able to manage only the virtual environment, and not the Apple Mac itself.

One thing I am not sure about is where you would make the back ups to? When you hook up an external drive to a Mac, it usually wants to format it for Mac. Not sure what would happen if you did so in Parallels.
