Updating from Acronis True Image Home 2012

Thread needs solution

I've downloaded the free upgrade to Acronis True Image Home 2013 after purchasing version 2012 last week but do I have to uninstall the previous version or can I just install over the top of version 2012?

If I have to uninstall, will I lose my customised settings and scheduled backups?

Thanks.

You can install over the top of 2012.

My view is, if 2012 has been running with no problems then install over the top, if you have had problems with 2012 the better thing to do would be to uninstall and install 2013 separately. If you go the latter route you will need to have the 2012 serial number along with the 2013.

Installing over the top will preserve your tasks, although you might need to re-enter the schedule. I suggest exporting the 2012 tasks so that if anything goes amiss you can import them back into 2013.

If by chance you have the 2012 Plus Pack installed, you will need to uninstall this first in either scenario.

Do not forget to make a new Windows RestorePoint/or make sure one is done before starting this - in case 2013 gives problems!
My 2012 was running very fine - and I installed 2013 over the top - getting unending problems. The restore-point saved me a lot of trouble.

krabbe,

That is good advice to follow before installing any software, or new hardware as well.

Thanks

James

I thought it was necessary to write it because I for instance normally have the Restore-function deactivated - due to the usage of a SSD as System-HDD - as have many more people with SSD - in the normal case I have my TIH to save me trouble so that I do not need the function. But here I did enable it before installing just this software.

I successfully updated my 2012 software to the 2013 version by running the Acronis cleanup utility for ATIHB 2013, then rebooting and running the ATIHB 2013 install and entering the serial number for the 2013 version as well as the serial number for the 2012 version as the "qualifying product" for the upgrade and it was successful. I had previously tried to upgrade my 2012 version to the 2013 version and even though the install completed successfully, the application would not launch.
