Change the number of incremental backups

Thread needs solution

I have a task that creates a full backup followed by 6 daily incremental backups. I want the task to repeat starting on Thursdays which I can do by chosing the date I create the task.

The cycle repeated as I wanted each Thursday until I didn't turn on my computer for 2 days. Skipping 2 incrementals slipped the schedule 2 days causing so the full backup is now on Saturdays.

I want to get the cycle to return to starting on Thursday so I edited the task yesterday to change the number of incrementals to 4. Attached is a screen shot showing that the task is continuing beyond 4 incrementals rather than starting over.

Is there a way to get the task back to starting on Wednesday? The only way I know is to delete the task and recreate it.

Unfortunately, the program does not offer any feature to play catch up. Editing a task is discouraged as it usually does not function well afterwards.

My suggestion for a workaround would be to restart a new task and the next time the computer is off,
run the backup manually x times to play catchup so the backup will be back in sync with the count.

You can run the backups manually either by a desktop shortcut or by opening the program and choose the "Backup now" option.
The edit backup settings options provides an option to create a backup shortcut so using the shortcut is the easiest way.

I agree with your solution but it is a workaround.

Acronis 2012 has a serious bug. The task we are discussing where I edited the number of incremental backups from 6 to 4 continues to create incremental backups. It has now created 8 as shown in the attachment. Editing the task should allow update the number of incrementals and reject edits that couldn't be executed. If they can't fix this issue then the number of incrementals should be grayed out and uneditable. I wonder how many other edits to a task work properly.

I have two tasks: one creates daily backups and the other one weekly backups.

1) Daily backups to create a one week set - I create a task on Tuesday to run daily with 6 incremental backups. This creates a 7 day set of daily backups beginning each Wednesday as long as I don't miss a day and get out of sync.

2) Weekly backups to create a one month set - These run on Sunday. I can't use a fixed number of incremental backups because some months have 4 and some 5 Sundays. So I create a new task just before the start of the next month to run on each Sunday with 4 incremental backups. This creates a weekly set for the month. After the last Sunday of the month I unschedule the current month's task and create the next month's task.

For 1) I wish there was an option to create a task to run daily starting on a specified day (i.e. Wednesday). For 2) an option to create a task that ran weekly starting on a specific day (Sunday) would help too. Older versions of Acronis had the option to start a task on a future date.

Ray F,

For more flexible scheduling options, you should consider using Windows Task Scheduler.
Select your backup task, and create a shortcut for it on your desktop. If you right click on that shorcut, properties, you will see the command line you would use in Windows Task Scheduler.

Ray,

You can accomplish most of what you want for features by using Chain2Gen as a supplement to TrueImage.

C2G provides options to have a new full created via a variety of methods.

More information can be found by clicking the Chain2Gen link in the signature below.

More information is available about using the Windows scheduler to schedule backups as Pat L has suggested. Index item 3-H and 3-I offers this information and can be found via the top line of my signature below.
