Latest build has de-activated my PAID FOR product - what gives?
I've been using Acronis True Image 11 Home since I purchased it from cleverbridge (ref 14639139 in August this year) as an upgrade to the OEM WD edition available on the western digital website. The product is registered on my account and all is well.
TODAY I get an in-application notification about an update being available, so I download it.
The update has deleted my product activation.
When I try to re-activate, it allows me to enter the current serial number and thinks it is fine, BUT it then wants a previous serial number.
I have never had a previous serial number - I purchased the upgrade using the BUY NOW link in the WD edition of the software that is available from Western Digital for the drives I own.
Please help as my purchased product has effectively been de-activated by your own update and so at the moment I am not very happy!
Roger

@Roger,
Your problem might be due to TI being an upgrade to the WD original, though that doesn't help solve the problem.
@Mathias,
Your problem might be seperate to Roger's or of course they could eb the same problem.
I haven't installed the update yet, but there are two options that both of you could try.
When you have the Acronis installer form in front of you, right click on install and select 'extract MSI installer'. Then try installing using the MSI installer directly.
You might find the easier answer is to export any task you have, uninstall TI2011, then re-install.

Hello Roger and Mathias,
I assume you have been upgrading from ATIH2010, do you have serial number for it? You should enter that one and it will be working fine. Btw if you have ever registering your product with Acronis, then please log in into your account at acronis.com, serial number for 2010 should be there.
I'm sorry for that problem. The workaround above should help.

Sorry, I've made a mistake.. I hade a 2010 version that came with S/N, then updated to 2011 with another S/N. Now I've updated the 2011 to build 6574. But with the two S/N it worked to activate the trial version.
Sorry for the confusion.

Roger's point is that the only serial number he has is the one he bought by upgrading from a Western Digital version. Since the WD software was free, he has no previous serial number and therefore cannot use the workaround.
I have exactly the same problem, which I explain here.

I also have the problem which Roger and Ed described. I did not not purchase this product with a belief that I would have to be tethered to a previous version.

I have the same problem with the LATEST build 6574. I had build 5519 FULLY ACTIVATED and after autoupdate installed build 6574, the product has reverted to a TRIAL COPY!. This happened on ALL 3 INSTALLATIONS (3 serial numbers/3 home systems).
Not sure if it relevant but all three TI 2011's were upgraded from TI 2010/2009.
I'm going to think twice about enabling autoupdating and even installing ANY update in the future unless this UPDATE issue gets is fixed.

I don't know what Acronis have done with the installer for this build or why - maybe some illicit SN's are floating around the Interent (sic) so the installer has been altered.
This install problem only appears if you have purchased an upgrade version of 2011, full versions haven't suffered this annoyance.
For those who have an OEM version of TI, ie: Western Digital or others, the only way to solve the problem that I'm aware of is to re-install the WD version which has a serial number embedded into it and then install the new 2011 build.
If the old 2011 build is 5515 I would suggest exporting your tasks and schedules so that you can re-import them into th enew build saving the hassle from starting all over again.

John P:
There's a workaround if you have your 2009 and/or 2010 serial numbers: http://kb.acronis.com/content/16467 .
Those of us who upgraded from a free version of imaging software based on ATIH have only our 2011 serial numbers and are dead in the water (short of trying what Colin suggests).

Thanks Ed, that is what I had to do, but talk about a nusance factor having to do it on 3 different systems. Sheesh.
I'm not going to be happy customer if I have to do the re-activation for EVERY patch....

I'm not a happy camper. I bought 2010 and upgraded to 2011. 2011 was activated and running smoothly. Then this update comes along and de-activates my installation. I then have to turn around and dig out the 2010 serial and type in the S/N that is way too long. Its ridiculous. Acronis, you need to get with it here and make sure this BS doesn't happen anymore.

steven,
You could always copy and paste the serial number from the downloaded serial.txt file.
That would save a finger nail or two.

and as Colin had to remind me once. If the Right click and paste does not work, executing a Control V will also paste the serial into designated window. I keep a text file of all my serial numbers so had this happened to me, I would have just highlighted the serial number and copied it into the clipboard and the pasted it using a Control V.

Ditto with the problems. This is ridiculous! Hows this for an idea : Test before releasing.

This workaround requires reactivating the product by providing two serial numbers: the current one and one from a previous version.
My current serial number is the one I paid for to upgrade Seagate Disk Wizard to ATIH 2011. Since Seagate Disk Wizard was free, I have no previous serial number. What do you recommend now?

Dear Ed,
Any chance Colin's suggestion fixed the issue for you?
Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you.

Any chance of your providing a new, tested build where I don't have to:
- Uninstall ATIH2011
- Reinstall Seagate Disk Wizard
- Reinstall ATIH2011
on three machines, a procedure you haven't even tested?

Anton, I do not view that as a viable solution for me. I contacted Western Digital with the faint hope of obtaining a S.N.. Their reply was that no such S.N. was available. I was told to contact Acronis about a S.N. for this problem. Please tell me that a solution will be had that does not involve obtaining a S.N. from a previous version or reinstalling the WD version of Acronis (I no longer have access to that software).

I have a thought but stress I've not tried it, so it may not work!
I wonder if the current 2011 was uninstalled and replaced with the trial version of 2011 which was then activated with the SN would work.
I don't know if the trial version accepts the upgrade SN's, but someone feeling experimental might like to give it a try.

One would think this bug is embarrassing enough that Acronis will release a build that fixes it, sometime well within 30 days of the release of build 6574.

Thank you to Anton for resolving this issue by providing me with full serial numbers.

I have the same issue as Ed and have sent a PM to Anton requesting relief. If Anton can provide me with a full serial number, I'm a happy camper. It is simply totally annoying to have to uninstall TI 2011 PLUS PACK, then Uninstall TI 2011, then reinstall Western Digital TI Special Edition and then run the UPGRADE and then install the PLUS PACK again. That's crazy. Anton - can you help? Thanks.

Hello Robert,
Thank you for posting. I will definitely help you.
I checked our internal resources and I can see that you contacted our Support team and got this issue sorted out. Unfortunately, that is how upgrading from an OEM Acronis version works, you need to have the OEM version installed in order to upgrade to Acronis. However, we can change the upgrade serial number to full after a 10$ service handling fee.
The issue that Ed mentioned, had to do with a technical issue in one of ATIH 2011 earlier builds.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Let's see-- We'll activate your ALREADY PAID FOR PRODUCT after a "free" update for ONLY an additional $10 "activation fee." ??Have I got that right?? This must involve a LOT of work on your end.

William,
I'm not Acronis, but the Western Digital product belongs to Western Digital and Western Digital just use Acronis as the engine for their product. It's no different to Alvira or BitDefender who provide their Av/Firewall engine to other software companies who add thier bits and pieces into it and rebadge it.

An admittedly quick perusal of this thread reveals that several of the affected have purchased versions of ATIH, tho others may, indeed, have OEM versions.

I get too many activations message and will not let me deactivate on other. It just says administrator notified and cannot do it now. I have several computers and have it on only this one and have my older 2012 update on the other. Maybe that is not allowed? In any case it will not let me activate after a restore. It was working before the restore. What do I do now. This will happen again as I will shortly buy a new computer and will want it only on that one.

It still seems to rum but I keep getting the too many activation message. What to do?

Gilbert,
Please see this post. It talks about 2013, but will pertain to 2012 as well.
