Uninstall of AIT 2010 disables all USB ports

Thread needs solution

I have just purchased an upgrade to 2013 which requires 2010 to be uninstalled first. When I uninstall 2010 it disables all my USB ports incl. mouse & keyboard. Safe mode, Windows repair and driver reinstall have no effect. Only solution was to load a restore point prior to AIT uninstall.

I have found a number of posts with similar problems from uninstalling AIT 2012, but none seem to offer a reliable solution. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a fix which will allow me to install 2013?

Many thanks

Tim

Hi Tim,

I'd recommend using the Clean Up Utility in order to remove the installed products. Before you start however, I suggest that you make a full disk image back up that you can restore from in case you don't get the desired results. If applicable, remember to disable windows integration, secure zone, and/or the start up manager if enabled.  Plus Packs need to be uninstalled as well if present.

I didn't see a clean tool for 2010, so for it I would use Add/Remove Programs or the Programs & Features applet.  Same for 2013, then, run the clean tool following all instructions and steps before restarting your system.

You may need to start with this tool from the get go, if removing 2010 using conventional means fails or leaves USB devices in a non working state.  Or, you might have to use PS2 input devices to determine the underlaying cause of this behavior.  I don't know what OS you are running or what type of hardware so part of my reply may not pertain to your situation.

I suspect however that remnant files or registry entries could be causing this problem for you.
