Unable to find boot it in the embrm partition
Running TI8 on a WinXP PC. Did several full backups to an external USB2 hard drive on different days. I'm able to restore a backup to a hard drive. But when the PC restarts, it has a black screen with "Unable to find boot it in the embrm partition".
I tried to restore a different backup but on restart, I get the same error message.
What would cause this?
Thanks,
Skyhawk

Yes, as MVP Shadowsports has suggested, boot from the Ti Rescue CD and perform the restore from the the CD. When restoring, check mark the disk as what is to be restored so all restored as as when the backup was created.

ShadowSports and GroverH,
Thanks for your input.
I fixed the problem. I had to run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP CD and do a MBR repair on the restored HDD. Once that was done, WinXP booted up fine.
All of the backups from the failing hard drive that I restored have the same MBR problem. So it appears that Acronis TI8 was backing up the invalid MBR and the different restores that I tried all had the same problem.
The failing HDD can still boot and operate fine so it's strange that restores of the backups of that HDD would get the boot error. BTW, the failing HDD was found to have bad sectors using Seagate's Seatools program (though the HDD is a Western Digital).
Thanks for taking the time to help out,
Skyhawk

Greetings,
I recommend that you keep at least 3 back ups of your install. It's always good to have more than one image to recover from.
Bad blocks are part of a disk's life. Once the data you need from this disk is safe, you can use SeaTools and attempt to have it reallocate the bad sectors. Success depends on myany factors. Overall health, physical and/or mechanical defects as well as the amount of sectors remaining for reallocation. Even if repaired successfully, I normally don't trust a drive with critical data once these types of issues become prevalent.
Glad our suggestions were helpful.
