Backup device is locked

Thread needs solution

The backup device is locked up by some service or process connected to True Image. I find that unacceptable to not be able to power down my backup device. There's no point in having it running 100% when backups may only require a once a week backup. Am I missing something or is this the way it works ?

What is your backup device, how is it attached?

Is the True Image monitor running in the system tray?

What is telling you it is locked and what action are you performing when this happens.

I haven't heard of True Image locking a drive, it does lock some files that it uses for processing, the only thing that normally locks access to a drive is Windows.

My backup device is Seagate 1tb drive running on USB. True Image Monitor was running. I removed it but still could not remove the device.
I was trying to remove the device with first window safely remove hardware then I installed Zentimo and tried. There were a number of processes and/or services locked onto the device. None of which appeared to be True Image. But I did not have this problem until installing True Image. I have noted since rebooting that there is no problem so far.

What I originally did was to create a test backup on the device. Then I deleted the backup task from True Image then deleted the actual backup from the device. That's when the the device locked up as far as trying to remove it. possibly this was a Windows 7 glitch. Best to see what happens in the future now that I know True Image should not cause this problem.
