Annoying "Invalid Warnings" on File Backup

Thread needs solution

Due to problems with email backup I've recently changed my file backup settings to include the outlook.pst files for both user accounts on my PC.
To enable shared views of each calendar these files are in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\xxxx for each account.

These files are backed up successfully but since adding them each I get two warnings from each file backup :-
The following link target was not backed up: C:\Users\Public\Desktop
The following link target was not backed up: C:\Users\Public\Favourites

Neither of these directories are flagged as requiring backup.

While I conceed this is not diastrous I prefer a "clean" Success flag as I don't want to have to keep checking that these are the only warnings for every backup.

Any ideas as to why these warnings are being generated ?

Greetings,
I believe there are two possible ways to resolve this behavior. One is to add/include these folders to your back up task. The other is to add the folders themselves to the exclusions list. Adding the links will not work since these are in effect "pointers". I'm sure you remember how microsoft changed the way user profiles were implemented in windows vista and later. This behavior is a result of these changes.

Hi, apologies for slow response, been offline for a few days. thanks for your suggestions and I'll probably exclude as you suggest. I'm afraid I don't "remember" the user profile changes you refer to however I would have expected far more such entries if there was a generic profile change (there are further "public" items not to mention genuine account versions of these) so I'm still confused as to why these exceptions are being produced ?

Further to the above I now have problems adding an exclusion to my File Backup !
My File Backup Options Exclusions tab has "Files matching the following criteria:" ticked.
I try and enter C:\ (to be followed by remainder of path) in the "File extension or mask" field. As I enter "C" the "Add" button is "ungreyed", however as soon as I enter ":" the "Add" button is greyed out so I seem unable to exclude any file by full path with a wildcard as implied by Help (which also advises to exclude by folder select the folder using the "Browse" which doesn't exist on this tab ?).
Any ideas ?
