Transfer all the new disk
Hi,
I am using Acronis TI 2012 and i bought 2TB disk.
I need to transfer my current 500GB to the new 2TB.
I know i should install the new 2TB on the system, clone the older, 500GB to it and reboot...
a few questions:
1. on the help doc it says:
"For best results, install the target (new) drive where you plan to use it and the source drive in another location, e.g. in an external USB enclosure. This recommendation is especially important for laptops."
does it mean to connect it to the SATA port i intend to use it on?
As i said i want to swap between the old and the new drive but if i swap the SATA ports of these drives BEFORE i do the migration process won't i have problems booting the system?
2.Will i be able to automatically boot from the new, larger HD after the migration process?
3.The older smaller drive has a partition and is assigned the letters C & E and i also name partition E as "Data on C".
Will these partitions retain their drive names and assigned letters after the migration process to the new, larger HD?
If yes than what will happen to the older HD drive names.
Thank you,
Dan

Hello Dan Liberman,
Thank you for posting this question in our forum.
You can solve your situation with different ways:
- You can perform a disk backup from your 500 GB source drive first, then replace the drive with your new 2TB drive and run a restore task. For running this operation, you need to create an Acronis bootable media first and check, if it is starting your system properly. See the user guide for backup and recovery.
- You can perfom a cloning operation. To run this, you need to put your new drive into your machine. If you have a small machine or laptop, you need to connect the source external. (E.g. eSATA or USB). You also should perform this operation using an Acronis bootable media. See the user guide for cloning.
For creating a bootable rescue media, see the user guide.
If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.
If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.
Thank you.
