Best backup strategy for new laptop?
Hi! I will soon be getting a new laptop (Lenovo Z580 with Windows 8) and am curious about the best strategy to use in backing it up. The intent here is to be able to restore the laptop to factory conditions (bare metal) in the event of a hard drive failure.
Here is what I plan to do:
Before even powering up the laptop I will plug in an external USB drive; boot into the BIOS and change UEFI and legacy settings; then boot to an Acronis 2013 USB boot stick. Once booted into Acronis, I will select all the HDD partitions (there are about 5-6 of them) and back them up to an image on the external drive called Pristine_Laptop or something similar.
Am I correct in assuming that, should the laptop's HDD fail or need to be replaced, restoring this one image will bring the hard drive back to factory conditions?
Data and files will only be stored on the C: partition. This partition will be backed up regularly using incremental backups. My intent is to only backup the C: partition, since nothing changes on the other partitions (at least I don't think it changes).
If the HDD has to be replaced, my plan is to restore the Prisitine_Laptop image which should restore the computer to its original state. After that I will restore the latest incremental image to the C: partition only.
Simple question: will this work?
Or is it just easier to include all the HDD partitions when making the regular backups of the C: partition?
Any and all input is appreciated.
Thank you!

Hmmm how do you know the laptop you are buying has "about 5-6" partitions; that seems odd to me. In any case what I would do is pull the drive and back it up w/o even powering the laptop, and (of course) make a full backup.

Really? Is that the best username you could come up with? Choosing the username of a guy who just murdered his girlfriend will be offensive to many. You fail, and will get no help from me.

My cousin has the same computer so I've seen the partition layout. It seems odd for there to be so many partitions, but Lenovo seems to do it this way.

This is the best way of being sure of getting all the partitions--just select the disk as to what is to be included within the backup.
