When Does TI 2013 Nonstop Back Up Changes to Files?

Thread needs solution

I am testing Nonstop Backup for two folders using TI 2013 (Build 5551) on Win7 Pro (64-bit) to a network drive. The documentation indicates that Nonstop Backup handles open files. In my case, TI 2013 does not appear to be backing up changes to Word or Notes files while Word or Notes are active.

The initial backup worked fine even though Word and Notes had the test files open. TI seemed to be creating new versions every five minutes whenever changes were being made to files in the folders being backed up. I was working on a Word document - although I had saved the changes periodically and TI was picking up the hidden temp file created by Word, it did not seem to be backing up the .doc file until I closed Word. I verified (using Notepad) that Word updates the .doc file after the save.

I also run Lotus Notes which keeps documents in large files that periodically need to be compacted. After compacting one file, I noticed that the copy in the TI nonstop backup was still the original size. When I restored the file, the content confirmed that the file had not been backed up. I closed Notes and Nonstop Backup backed up the file.

Is this a known issue?

I tested NonStop Backup to a directly attached NTFS external drive and confirmed that the problem still occurs. I created a Word document, saved it, verified that the .doc file existed and checked that it was not locked for reading. Although NonStop Backup made subsequent backups, the Word file was not backed up. Similarly, changes to the Notes application files were not being picked up - I could only one version, the one from the initial backup.

When I closed Word and Notes, the next NonStop backup either picked up the file or created a new version. The Word file has the correct date, the Notes file has a data that is off by 17 hours. I will start a new forum topic.
