ATI 11 and 2013
Hi all, I have taken a ati partition image made with a boot disc 2013 plus pack version to a friends place to attempt to copy some files to his pc. He has version 11 installed, and when I try to access the ati 2013 image it says its corrupted. I have since taken my 2013 boot disc to his pc, and of course it worked. Does this mean that ATI 11 cant read backups made with a 2013 plus pack boot disc, or is there another issue here?

Hi, and thanks, its definately version 11, and I can appreciate there being problems trying to read files made with a later version of the software. I just wanted to confirm that the issue was exactly that, and not another problem.
Forward incompatability is one thing thats absolutely understandable, but as an ATI user thats purchased every version from 9 onwards, I really would like to continue to access the older archives I have with the latest version. The last version of ATI I have installed is version 2012, and only because I can access archives with it. All new backups are now made with a boot version of 2013 plus pack, which I understand is a more secure way to do it?

Just as a safety precaution, don' t be in too big a hurry to throw out the old Recovery CD's. Label them and put them on a spindle and keep them safe. You just never know when a backup file may need their assistance. Be safe rather than neat. You wrote "which I understand is a more secure way to do it?" If you are referencing the non-interference of Windows when booting from the CD, many would agree but that should not be used as an indication that backup made from within Windows have no value. 90 % of my backups are made with Windows but only occasional backups made via the Recovery CD. All backups are validated each time they are created.

Hi, and thanks, i have kept all the old install discs, and the bootable media, I can still download them as well, but I guess I cant expect Acronis to keep them available forever? Ive never had a problem backing up and very occasional restoring images, or a few files, but Ive read repeatedly on this forum about the benefits of using the bootable media instead of windoze to backup and recover.
Suppose I should install 2013 in place of my current 2012, specially as Ive bought and paid for it , but what I dont like is all the extra stuff (stuff was the nicest term that came to mind) that gets installed every time i install a new version.

In my opiinion, the 2013 is less intrusive and less extra baggage as compared to 2012 and 2011. Acronis indicated they had spent considerable time in improving the backup retention procedures. I do not use the online backup and sync so I have both services stopped.
Do a frest disk image backup and then uninstall the plus pack and then the TI 2012 program. Then run he 2013 cleanup utiliity (link below) and do take the time to read the instructions on the utility. Then do a fresh install of 2013 if you want 2013 installed.
On the first startup of 2013, pay attention to the opening Windows where you have the option to prevent startup scans (which I uncheck) and click the skip the scan window. These can be changed later if needed but you may have an interest in a clean listing of backups.
Create all new Backup tasks and point each one to a new & empty storage sub-folder with no intermixing of backup files. I use the keep x number of recent version chains and AVOID using any option which inovolves disk space or elapsed days. Using the option to keep x number of recent version chains avoids the delays and problems of consolidation and the user has control over how many backup chains are retained on a rotating basis--new chain started and old chains drop off.--all handled by the program. Avoid editing the backup tasks as the results are often not what is anticipated.
The above are my personal preferences and NOT necsssarily listed in the user manual.

Hi, and thanks for the response. I uninstalled ATI 2012 with revo, ran the ati cleanup utility, and installed 2013. It works fine. Couple more questions regarding services if I may?
I disabled Non stop backup, and sync agent in my services, no problems there.
I never schedule backups, so can I disable scheduler2, also in services?
In msconfig, trueimage monitor is running in the startup, is this necessary?
I have disabled schedule helper, and tib mounter in msconfig. Obviously now I cant mount any archives, but as I can access their contents through my file manager (xyplorer) I cant see the reason why I would want to mount a backup?
Am I on the right track here?
