How to backup a computer "recovery" partition to a new drive?
Acronis Community,
I need to backup the Recovery partition on an HP desktop computer, replace the failing hard drive, install a new drive, restore the Recovery partition to the new drive and recover the system with the OS and apps that it was purchased with (I have the end-user data backed up already).
Is this possible with ATIH 2012? If so, what are the "quick steps"?
Thanks in advance!

The simpler way to do this would be to use the utility that comes as part of HP's Recovery partition. It probably allows the Recovery files to be written to DVD-R or to USB flash drive. That's what I did with my Dell Recovery partition, and then I deleted the Recovery partition to free up 20 GB of disk space.

tuttle,
I may have to try that...
I backed up the HP Recovery partition using ATIH 2012, installed the new drive and restored the Recovery partition to the new drive. I had to re-do it as the "Add New Disk" tool in ATIH used the whole disk. I went back into Tools and re-partitioned the new disk with a 10GB partition and marked it "active". I then restored the Recovery image to that partition. The HP Recovery program now starts on the PC but when "System Recovery" is selected (to restore the system to an "as purchased" state), I get an error (Error: 0x400110020000100a) which, I imagine, has something to do with not being able to "find" a partition to install the recovery onto (OS and applications as shipped).
Can anyone assist or point me in the right direction on this?
Thanks in advance!

Why not perform a full disk backup of the old disk and then restore the full disk backup onto the new disk so the new disk will have the same data as the old without any recovery of the factory fresh data.

GroverH,
I "could" do that but...
I wanted to restore it fresh without all of the bloatware and registry tweaks done by all of the "freeware" programs downloaded to that PC over time.

It's your choice to do the method you choose. Hopefully, that will work but if it does not, then you can always to what I suggested in post 4 and then do the recover factory image process onto the recent restore. I believe you HP offers recovery choices direct from within the Bios.

GroverH,
Thank you! I will also give your method a try.
Thanks again!
