Mid stream Scheme change

Thread needs solution

Hi all:

I changed my settings from Incremental to Version Chain after about 2.5 Tb. This is an issue because it is only a 3 TB drive. So I changed my backup method to what it probably should have been in the first place. It's naming them weird too; probably since I changed the name of the backup too. It also maintains that I have 27 versions.
So my question is this: Can I delete my old Incremental Backups now? Would that just start the new backups as a new default? Why does it name my newly named Version Chain backups "Main_1TB_Disk", "Main_1TB_Disk(1)" and "Main_1TB_Disk(1)2"? Do Incremental backups have a different naming convention? Do I need to start fresh?
I guess that's question's' but I really appreciate any support the community can give. This is my work machine and it must not fail.

Thank you for reading.

Which version of TrueImage?

As the program is out of sync, I would suggest you start over with a new task pointing to new and empty sub-folder.

Also recommend that you do NOT use the Version Chain scheme. After some time, it will be consolidating in order to meet the deadlines and merging data can cause issues.
Instead of Version Chain, I would suggest that you the Custom/Differential method. Look at the guides in link #2 below. Look especially at the example of 11-Dif.
If you version has these options, then set up your backup scheme according this example except change the 6 and 4 to meet your needs. The first option line of 1 full +6 dif=1 recent version chain. Then the 4 is an indication to keep 4 complete chains (4x7=28 files).

One thing to keep in mind is that the program will not delete the oldest full until AFTER the new replacement has been created. Thus, there is short term temporary space needs for one extra full which must be considered in youir plans on how man chains to keep.

The backup name of (1) would seem to indcate that 1 chain has been completed and the other numbers not in parenthesis is the number of diff that have been done. But as you made changes, it is difficult to determine.  Editing a task and make changes causes the program to get out of synce so starting over is the best option.

"I am using Acronis TrueImage 2012. To start afresh, do I want "only after initial full version" or a "full version every X increments"? The latter seesm to make more sense.

Thank you very much for your prompt assistance!"

choose custom scheme
Choose differential
choose create a full version after every x differentials (note this line = 1 recent version chain)
choose store no more than x recent version chains ( this indicates how many recent version chains do you want to keep.
Note the illistration. See how the options and the number of files and chains tie together.

Thank mate I really appreciate it.
Can I test this backup somehow? Perhaps with a second partition?

By all measns, your backup should be tested but I would use a separate disk so as not to put your good disk at risk.
Install a test disk but be sure your good disk is disconnected.
then restore you backup. You do not want Windows to see two identical disks on first boot following a restore.
Look at link #3 below and items 3 and 2 could be applied--but you should use a test disk.
