Cloning a fully encrupted disk in a Fujitsu PC

Thread needs solution

I have cloned a lot of disk with this software (Bootable CD), all have worked on till now.

I'm convinced about Acronis is cloning sector to sector and therefore I can't see anything wrong by cloning a fully encrypted disk.
I seems to be working.

But when I booted the computer on the new disk Windows Recovery is popping up and starts Fujitsu Recovery software.
This software is trying to get back to factory default.
If I boot the old disk nothing is wrong.

- I'm going form 500GB to 2TB.
- I did use Auto mode and not manual.
- All things looks normal before cloning.

Please help with any proposals about the problem.

As I'm thinking about it. It must be the change in the first 100mb partition that is tricking the restore mode from Fujitsu?
Else the disk see to be fully cloned and functional.

If that security software is similar to BitLocker, this article could apply:

Cloning doesn't work with encrypted disks. You have to do a full backup (select the disk in disk mode) and select the "sector-by-sector" option.

Note: cloning and backup are always at the sector level. This option just make sure *all* the sectors are included in the backup and restored in the same order.

I have just discovered that a missing active flag on a booting disk can also cause the same symptoms.

If you have access to some form of disk utility you can check to see if this might be the case. Acronis Disk director trial will tell you, but the trial version won't be able to correct this as your disk is over 100MB in size.

Hi Colin,

Now I did take a backup from windows this time, so the disk is unlocked (from encrypting).
But that didn't change anything. It didn't boot after I restored to a new disk.

Instead I booted up on "Boot Repair Disk" and analysed the computer witch gave my this output http://paste2.org/MvUUAbvz.
With this tool I repaired the boot on the newly cloned/restored disk. Witch gave my this output http://paste2.org/WP25EVx1.

Now the computer booted up just fine.

So my conclusion to all this is that it is possible to clone/backup and restore an fully encrypted disk.
But something goes wrong and it can't boot, therefore you can use "Boot Repair Disk" or "Disk Director" to repair the boot sector.
I do not have the expiens to see what is wrong after the restore, but the Boot Repair Disk did the job.
