TIH 2013 Does not save the selection of folders to be backed up

Thread needs solution

When doing selected file backup for TIH2013, the preferences for the folders that are to be backed up are not saved, nor can the list of folder selections be edited. (For example, I have a folder with files that I do not wish to back up, yet even though I do not select the folder, TIH2013 insists on backup it up, wasting time and memory. When I go back to the selection screen, the folder is checked.)

Acronis has not corrected this fundamental error, but does insist that customers pay them to obtain support, with no guarantee of success. Pitiful.

Try to uninstall and reinstall. We have seen a couple of posts along these lines and that solved the issue.

Thanks, but can I reinstall ATIH2013 if it has been several months since I purchased this software? Acronis has a strict (and unreasonable) time limit, and I sure don't want to pay twice for this buggy software. They even cut off technical support.

By the way, properly written software doesn't need to be uninstalled and reinstalled to work correctly. Rather, a free update that corrects this major bug is warranted.

Yes, you can uninstall and reinstall without limitations.

I agree.

I am reluctant to spend what would involve a significant amount of time and effort to uninstall and reinstall ATIH. Rather than being a simple uninstall, it involves several other steps, including running a cleanup utility and editing the registry (ALWAYS dangerous with Windows). See for example, forum postings such as "35198: Can neither properly uninstall nor reinstall ATIH 2012".

Worse, I upgraded to ATIH2013 from a full version of 2012. So I would have to (a) uninstall ATIH2013, (b) run the cleanup and possibly (c) edit the registry, then (d) try to install ATIH2012, and then (e) run the 2013 upgrade. All this with no assurance that it will correct the error in ATIH2013, or even that ATIH2013 would be able to run again!

That would be the professional way to deal with a product bug.

With 2013, the uninstall routine usually works fine, and the cleanup utility is optional. No registry editing is necessary to do a new install of 2013. The registry entries discussed are pertaining to the disk filter drivers that Acronis installs for live system backup capability (SnapAPI). Since you are doing a re-install of 2013, it should not be necessary to remove the filters (normally removed correctly by the 2013 uninstall routine) anyway.

As far as installing 2013 with an uprade serial number, you would only need to start the 2013 installation and enter your 2013 serial number. The installalion program will recognize that the 2013 serial number you entered is an upgrade serial number, and prompt you to enter the 2012 (or previous version) serial number to complete the installation. You do not need to install 2012 first.

I'm not sure the issue has been addressed, but is documented, and Acronis is aware of it. Hopefully it will be addressed in the upcoming build. I personally have seen this behaviour with file/folder backup tasks that have been edited, but not with a freshly created file/folder task.

You don't need to reinstall 2012 before installing the 2013 upgrade.

The cleanup utility is pretty safe to use, but you are right to be worried about editing the registry. Consider doing a full system disk backup before uninstalling.

Of course, you don't have to follow my recommendations, and wait for Acronis to release a new update that might or might not address your issue.
If you follow my recommendations, nothing guarantees they will solve your issue.

If you submit a support request after 30 days of purchase, you will have to pay about $10. This might get reimbursed, in particular if Acronis determines it is a bug in the software.
