Problems backing up emails in MS Outlook using ATI Home 2011
Dear Forum,
I have a Lenovo T410 laptop running Windows 7 and Norton Internet Security (current subscription).
I have about 10 GB of emails in my Microsoft Outlook 2010. I used Backup Assistant with the default settings to back up Windows Contacts and Microsoft Outlook using Setting Chain. The target hard drive holds 1 TB and has nothing on it.
The process started and indicated about 3 hrs to complete. This seemed very long for only 10 GB. I let it run overnight and in the nmorning came back to a hung up computer. The My Backups Log showed MyBackup - not backed up yet".
Any idea of what went wrong and how to resolve it?
Thanks,
Howard

I've backed up PST files containing years of messages and attachments, and have never seen one that large. Is that even safe? I recall that earlier versions of Outlook had issues when a PST approached 3 GB or so (I think it was 3 GB, though could have been another amount).
You should also ensure that your Outlook trash is emptied, then run Outlook's PST compress command at least three times. (Again, going from memory of earlier versions, in which you needed to compress three times to get full compression/cleanup of extra padding.

tuttle,
I'm with you. 10GB is a large file... must be years and years of email. Some of the more prolific ladies in our office get upwards of 2-3GB but we have these broken down into more manageable archives. Opening a 10GB .PST locally would be awful, and you can forget searching for an email. Still I would want the .PST file myself before trusting anything else to secure my data. Earlier versions of outlook did have smaller file size limitations.
File size limitations for .ost and .pst files in 2010 is 50GB (default)...
