Q-code FF (Reserved for future AMI error codes)

Thread needs solution

I got a strange problem with this one. I'd already been to Asus ROG forum because the Q-code is from my Asus Maximus V Gene. I was trying to recover by using the Acronis True Image 2013 Media Builder disc and when I try to enter Acronis after rebooting, the screen is stuck, I can't use the keyboard or my mouse - if I don't enter Acronis and continue to Windows instead, no problem at all. I saw from my Q-code LED on my motherboard and it's showing 'FF' which means 'Reserved for future AMI error codes'. I asked in ROG forums about this code and the reply was:

'The system is trying to hand over from the post process to the AHCI. Your Acronis is not being accepted.'

I'm using Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256GB as my main drive and Seagate Barracuda SATA III 2TB as my backup drive where Acronis stored my backups - I'm also using Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. And my copy of Acronis is legit plus I'm using the latest version 6514. I've been a user of Acronis for about 5 years and this is the first time I've come across this problem.

There is a documented issue (in the forums) with certain mice and keyboards (Logitech wireless with unifying receiver, plus others) that are not working with build 6514.

Have you tried a wired mouse?

There is an additional problem with build 6514 Rescue Media with GPT partitioned disks (GPT disks are not displayed) when using backup, restore, or clone. File recovery seems to work okay.

Hello James. I'm using Mionix Naos 3200 mouse and Saitek Cyborg V keyboard and they are both wired. I think I've fixed it by the way. I came across this knowledgebase article '38965: Acronis Products: Cannot Boot Windows 8 Secure Boot Machines with Acronis Loader' and I tried re-creating the bootable media again and it's working. Even though the fault descriptions from the article weren't exact to mine, I thought to try it out and Bob's your uncle.

Thanks for the head up about the GPT partitioned disks problem.
