Directory Services could not start

Thread needs solution

Backup & Recovery 10.

Hi,
We have taken over a support contract with a customer with multiple Server 2008 standard and am trying to perform DR tests on the servers.
The backups all complete without errors and when I run through the Universal restores it finds the new drivers for our test servers and finishes ok.
When I try to boot, I get as far as seeing a mouse pointer and then get the blue screen error:-

STOP: c00002e2 Directory services could not start because of the following error: the system cannot find the file specified.

This is the same in normal, safe mode with or without networking. I have tried the restore on different hardware (server and PC spec), tried changing the backup job to use VSS (was originally set to not?). I have downloaded the latest bootable media for version 10. I am getting this on error from two different server backups aswell.

Active Directory on the site looks healthy to me, no errors with DCdiag, replmon etc.

I haven't used Acronis much before so apologize if I'm missing something obvious. I would normally then look to do a system state restore of some sort in this scenario, but the customer is wondering why 'we' are having so much trouble with this. So I thought I would ask here if I'm missing something before going back to him for a system state backup and Directory Services Restore Mode password.

Thanks in advance,

Neil
