File-Backup: Full to USB-Disk and Increment to Network Storage

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

due to slow WLAN speed (less than 50Mbps) I have to perform the initial backup (size 60-70GB) to an USB 3.0 attached HDD). After that, I copy the TIB file to a location on the network server. Then, I modify the target location in TrueImage2013 pointing to the folder where the full backup has been copied to.

When doing backup a new, TrueImage2013 creates a new full backup and not an increment as expected. I need the incremental because only the small size is sustainable by the actual WLAN throughput.

How to get the increment performs and not another full backup?

Thank you guys in advance.
Anthony

Bump... Bump...
Nobody? Anybody? Is my concern so rare that no one bothers to reply.
The question is 'how to get ATI2013 being aware of the new location of an back-up set with one full and two or three inc backup?'. After I tried to modify the location folder (all credential are set correctly with the respective folder being well accessible), I encounter either a completely new full back up or the software crashes (refer to my other created thread).

A task for Incremental or Differential will always begin with a full backup. That is necessary, as that becomes the baseline. I suspect that a newly-changed location may require the same. Also, editing a task is discouraged by some MVPs, as sometimes the task subsequently doesn't work as expected. They recommend creating a new task with desired options and not editing it.

So, I suggest you bite the bullet and allow the first backup to run, even though it may take a while.

You should not allow an incremental chain to become too long. An incremental restore depends upon every incremental in the chain being valid, including the original full. It's better to limit each chain to just a few incrementals, followed by a fresh full backup to start a new chain.
You should validate backups periodically.

Thanks the the reply. Appreciate your help very much!
The problem seems to be that ATI2013 does not recognize the file name properly. It does have the option of verifying where it asks for browsing for the correct location of the baseline file. It however quite buggy first to report 'location not found' than after that 'file verified'. When attempting to back up to that location, it still creates a full back up but not an inc.
I am testing the free version of Comodo backup and it can always recognize the baseline back up and put a inc on top, no matter where I have moved it from before. It just works. The UI is however not as nice as of ATI2013 and it offers only optical media as boot option for system recovery.
BTW: it did bite the bullet and made an initial full BU over the network to prevent a necessity to modify the BU setting: I had the scheduling on and by the 3rd increment, the access to my network drive was not functioning when ATI2013 trying to run. Then the link is broken and it continues reporting not finding the backup location. That it is, nothing can be done to fix.

Many users have had issues with NAS, not because of Acronis but because the router gets overloaded with data throughput and cannot keep a consistent enough connection with the NAS for True Image to image or restore.
