Validation issue
When I attempt to validate images created within Win 7 from within Win 7 I can get an error that ATI cannot open the image file and then labels it corrupt in the UI. However when I validate the same image file with the rescue disk it always passes. Images created with the rescue disk always validate, both from Windows and the rescue disk.
This is ATI 2013 build 6514 on Win 7 Pro 64-bit on a Lenovo Thinkpad E335 and the images that will not validate within Windows are stored on a separate partition of the HDD. If I backup from Win 7 to an external drive the problem does not occur.

Suggest you check the "problem" partition for disk errors.
CHKDSK X: /R
where x is the drive letter for the specific partition being checked.
Windows will want to schedule later and the test could run several hours.

Images created with the rescue disk and stored on that partition don't have this problem, so very unlikely it's a problem with the partition itself. However I prefer to backup from within Windows and it is rather off-putting when I fire up ATI and see most of my backups marked as corrupt when they are not. The only answer I suppose is always to attach and back up to my external.
I had exactly the same problem with the previous build too.

Again, that is curious and uncommon.
Run chkdsk /r on that drive.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

OK, chkdsk /r running. Could be a while but I'll be back.

chkdsk /r on the partition was error free. It's a Toshiba branded drive but I haven't been able to locate a disk checking tool, probably because Toshiba don't actually make disk drives. It's probably a Fujitsu.
I guess it's a quirk I just have to live with as I've been using ATI for donkey's years on various systems and have never encountered this issue previously.

Launch Windows Disk Management to see if there are other partitions on the disk. If so, check them too.

There are partitions for three OSs, Win 7, Win 8 and Win 8.1 Preview, plus a shared data partition - the one I have the problem with. I may install ATI in Win 8 too - if it will let me - to see if I get the same issue. I'm not a novice.

When suspecting possible disk issues, each partition should be checked with chkdsk /r and a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer.

Do you recall how the problem partition was created? Was it created by Windows 7?
If you have the room to move the data off the partition and then use Win7 to reformat the partition, the problem might go away--but that is just a guess on my part.

I honestly don't remember now how I did it, but quite possibly with Partition Wizard. It wouldn't be too difficult to try your suggestion as I have a 1tb external. Let you know.

If you did go ahead and reformat, that would change the disk signature and the TI tasks would need to be recreated as TI would not recognize the change--just an FYI.

And some guess!! I finally got an opportunity to copy everything off the partition to an external and then deleted and recreated the partition in Win 7 Disk Management. After copying everything back and running a backup with validation the problem is resolved. This has rather shaken my faith in Partition Wizard, which is almost certainly what I used to partition the drive originally.

Yes, PW is one of my favorite programs. I recommend it frequently. My only reason for suggesting the reformat was that it seemsed to be the single partition that was involved--such as "where there's smoke there's fire" syndrome. As I stated, mine was just a guess. The important thing is that it is resolved.
