TI/PP 2011 New Customer Questions

Thread needs solution

I've read the FAQ, but I didn't see my questioned answered.

I will ultimately be running 4 licenses on 4 WinXP Pro SP3 32b PCs. For the moment, I am just testing on my own workstation. I am using another PC on the network to simulate a NAS server which I plan to purchase shortly.

I understand how to create backup jobs and configure there various parameters. In particular, I understand how to configure custom schemes and automatic cleanup.

(1) Suppose I have just defragged a disk (for Disk backup) or did a lot of installs/uninstalls of software (for a File backup) ... How can I force the the next execution of a particular backup job to create a FULL archive as opposed to a DIFFERENTIAL or INCREMENTAL archive? I want to do this without having to edit/re-edit parameters. Just a simple one click solution?

(2) The User's Guide seems to imply that if I choose to create INCREMENTALs versus DIFFERENTIALs that when recovering data, there will be more work for me the user as I have to manually recover the FULL and each intervening INCREMENT. However, it looks to me that whether I use DIFFERENTIALs or INCREMENTALs that all this is handled by the Backup Explorer automatically when I submit the recover job. Am I misunderstanding something here?

(3) The manual states that the My Backups drop down has option "Validate All Backups". I don't see that. Is there something I need to do enable that? Is there a simple command line option to validate all backups? (I prefer this to using the scheduler option.)

(4a) What happens when I lose my TI/PP DB due to a system crash? Suppose that I have INCREMENTAL archives of the system disk. I boot from the recovery CD and then need to manually apply the FULL and all INCREMENTALs, or do I just select the latest incremental to recover and it will be handled automatically?

(4b) How can I manually recover my database so that TI/PP knows that various archives are part of a backup set?

(4c) Will the BROWSE FOR BACKUP option allow me to manually recreate a database?

Thanks.

2, 4a - No additional work. You just point to the incremental backup, and the necessary are searched automatically. It does not require internal database - information about the previous backup is contained in the backup itself, so as in your example with bootable media, having .tib files are enough.

Thanks for your response.

I have yet to perform a trial disaster recovery from the bootable recovery CD. (This should be safe for me to test as I have been previously using different utilities and tape/DVD. So, if it fails, I can still fallback on my old procedures.)

It takes me a while having to tweak ethernet card parameters, entering IP addresses, and account/password information to actually access my TIB files. Is there way to build the recovery CD that it is preconfigured with all these values? (a scripting solution)

Thanks.

I am in the appropriate forum talking about the right stuff? How much time is there in a day?
I wanted to make some notes. I am enjoying the Software. What I wanted to note was that copies can turn up corrupted and even Windows could produce one. I've made 4 or 5 images in the first day after reinstalling my system, and now I've gone back to be sure I can use them. My Computer(s) have to survive all of this, presumably and they do. Economically, your software is a great buy for 50 dollars and thank you.
For me I'm looking to looking to continue my study in Flash Drives and external drives now and then back it all up to your cloud needing 250 GB of storage space for 129.00.
Thanks for the great prices and the fantastic software.
