Cannot Login...Help...
Hello,
Just installed vmProtect 9 and...I know this is so stupid...still, I've tried admin:root, root:root, :root, root:admin, admin:admin...no matter the combination all I get is the Login Failed dialog.
Help...please.
Thank you,
James

Hi,
I am in a similar situation. I installed and got Vmprotect 9 running on a virtual appliance. Three weeks (and two hospital visits) later and webadmin for Vmprotect is prompting me for user name and password. The error message is
Login Failed
User name or password is incorrect.
NOTE: If you are logging into Virtual Appliance-based installation of Acronis vmProtect 9.0, specify "admin" as the user name.
Like the user above have tried every combination of admin and root I can think of. I doubt I changed the password as I would have added it to the password manager's current list of 275 different usernames and passwords.
Is there a better option to recover the username and password other than wiping the VM, resinstalling and setting the password (and reconfiging the backup) please?
Thanks in advance, Mark

Hi Mark,
There can be various reasons for such behavior and for investigation we'll need the .ovf of the problematic appliance. I will send you a private message with the instructions. Please check it once you have a minute.
Thank you.

Confession time,
Personal memory failure turned out to be the issue. Acronis have been fantastic - offering to help figure out what went wrong. And, the password was in documentation I created, and I am back in.
However there is only one username/password available for this appliance. If the person who sets it up gets hit by a bus/leaves/forgets(like me) *and* has not documented it *and* has not told people where to find the documentation - you are left with a system you cannot monitor, maintain or fix.
There is no documented way to recover the password and the console is locked down. Acronis should be able to help, but this would be exceptional and not normal support.
Always there is a balance between security and resilience. Too secure and you cannot recover from problems. Too resilient and you cannot prevent unauthorised access. It boils down to which risks you protect. My memory, now there is something that is a risk. That is why I document - although where did I leave it......
Best Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the update, it's good to know that it was a "memory" issue rather than a bug :) . There is indeed only one password possible to be set up for appliance + note that the default 'root' password is tried automatically when you start web console on appliance installation. You need to provide login/password upon each start only if you changed the password.
Also we do have tools to reset the password on appliance in case it is lost, though indeed it implies that one needs to contact Acronis support to perform this procedure. I believe that's better than giving out such tools into public access in terms of security. Yes, it may be inconvenient sometimes, but still more secure.
Thank you.
