Switching to Acronis from Norton Ghost

Thread needs solution

Hi

I am using Acronis True Image on my 2 Laptops running Windows 7 but have an older version of Norton Ghost on my PC running Windows XP SP3.

I am considering upgrading my licence to a 3-PC one and install a copy on the PC. The problem is that I do not want to lose the ability to access old backups of my files created with Norton Ghost which go back to 2004.

Would there be any conflicts if I left Norton Ghost on the PC and then also installed Acronis True Image 2014 Premium to use from now on?

You should not leave 2 backup software on the same PC. I guess you have a recovery medium with Norton Ghost that you could use to restore if you needed these older backups?

I'm not sure if I have any recovery medium, as I obtained my current version as a free gratis update from Symantec online.

I could probably recover my old data to one of my external HDDs and then uninstall Norton Ghost before installing ATI.

You should not have any problem running Ghost and TI on the same computer.

If you don't have a recovery CD for Ghost and you need your backup data, it is worth trying to keep both pieces of software on your PC and see what happens. What I would do is a backup of my system before installing ATI 2014, using the ATI recovery CD. Then I'd try running both for a while. If you don't see any issue, then you are OK.

Many thanks for all your advice.

See this thread. Interesting coincidence. http://forum.acronis.com/forum/50170
