Can't uninstall True Image Home 2010 in order to install 2014

Thread needs solution

My old copy of Acronis True Image Home 2010 has not been working right for a while so I bought the upgrade to 2014. It is not installing because it says I need to uninstall previous versions. If I try to do this via the control panel Windows 7 (x64) goes into an endless 100% CPU loop. I downloaded the Acronis 10 Clean-up utility. It starts to run but after a few steps it ends with the message "Acronis Backup and Recovery cleanup Tool has stopped working." The Program function in the Windows Control Panel still says Acronis True Image Home is still installed and the install of the 2014 upgrade still fails saying I need to remove the old version. The version number of my existing version according to Windows is 13.0.7160. How do I get out of this mess?

Try Revo Uninstaller.

Some additional options would be to restore a prior backup.

Restart the 2010 instlalation program and choose the repair option.

Try again to run the Cleanup utility, link 4 below.
