Succesful Backup & Validation - but still an error message about a missing backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,

on my system TI2013 is installed and makes an incremental backup every day, followed by full backups every month. This is working in principle, and TI says that the backup is valid. The backup space is limited to 350 GB, and this was reached for the first time a few months ago. At that point TI deleted the first backups as per the backup settings. One of the backups deleted was the very first one which shouldn't be a problem in my understanding. But ever since then, during validation there is an error message in the log file (German language installation) stating that this very first backup deleted by TI itself cannot be found:

"Öffnen des Backups J:\Dell_XPS8500_Backup\ST1000DM003-9YN162_full_b1_s1_v1.tib fehlgeschlagen. Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Backup-Speicherort verfügbar ist und alle Versionen des Backups enthält. Dieses Backup ist möglicherweise ebenfalls beschädigt."

Further along in the validation process TI says that it will deleted that backup:

"Backup-Datei mit dem Pfad J:\Dell_XPS8500_Backup\ST1000DM003-9YN162_full_b1_s1_v1.tib wird gelöscht."

At the end of the backup validation a message states that the validation was successful.

On the next day during the next backup the same chain of events happens again. Searching for information with the provided event code produced no result. Does anyone know how to make TI aware that this backup does not exit any longer in order to prevent that error message from appearing day after day?

Thanks!

Elke

Elke.

Would you mind posting a screen capture of your storage folder for this listing of backups. Do sort the contents on the date column.

I would also perform a separate manual validation on the most recent backup added to this task.
Be present during the beginning part of the validation so if it pops up an errror message, you can click the provided "ignore" option.

Grover,

thanks for your reply. Attached are 4 screenshots of the folder which contains all the backups. The settings are on auto-consolidate and the max. size of all backups is limited to 350 GB.

I'll try the separate validation and post the results.

Grover,

yesterday I switched to True Image 2014 after updating Windows to version 8.1. After some initial problems due to lack of disk space for the backup, it is now working again. Both during the automatic validation after the backup and during the manual validation that you suggested the problem with the no longer existing first-ever backup did not reappear. Maybe Acronis has fixed something in the new version of True Image that solved my problem. Now I only hope that the problem does not reappear.

Thanks again for your help!

Elke

Elke,
I would encourge you to reduce the number of allowable incrementals and perform more frequent full backups. Rembember how the restore of incrementals work. If you need to restore the most recent of a specific chain, all members of the chain must be present and readable or not-corrupt. If one of the early slices is bad, all the newer slices for that chain cannot be used.

If you do this, you will need to start a new backup scheme & task and cease to use the old task. I am a firm believer in an old task should not be edited as the results are usually not as expected and take too long to get back into sequence.

Hopefully, you also have other storage disks so you are also makiing backups to other backup storage.
