Run backup job using script in True Image 2014

Thread needs solution

Dear Sir/Madam

I am looking at buying the Acronis True Image 2014 program for backing up my data.

I need to be able to run the previously defined/created differential backup job (the scenario has been described later in the post) using a VB script or a batch file. Is this supported in Acronis True Image 2014 program? If yes, could someone please give me some tips as to how to start the program and execute the job in the script file.

I have so far been using Genie-Soft Backup Manager Professional v8 on XP system but for some reason I am not able to install the v9 on my 64 bit PC running Windows 7, hence the need to look at another backup program - but it must support running of the backup job using script.

Differential backup scenario is as follows :-
Start of Week1
First run to be full (run on Sunday)
Differential backup run everyday from Monday through to Saturday
End of Week1 - 1 full backup and 6 differential backup

Start of Week2
Full backup run on Sunday
Differential backup run everyday from Monday through to Saturday
End of Week2 - 1 full backup and 6 differential backup from Week1 + 1 full backup and 6 differential backup from week2

I want to keep 2 full backup sets, that is, all the backups for 2 weeks.

Start of Week3
Full backup run on Sunday
Differential backup run everyday from Monday through to Saturday
End of Week3 - 2 full backups and 12 differential backup from Weeks 1 & 2 + 1 full backup and 6 differential backup from week3, that is 3 full backup sets.

Start of Week4
On Sunday, delete the oldest full set (comprising of the full backup and the 6 differential backups) from week1 and create the full backup. Hence, at the end of 22nd day (1st day of Week4), I should end up with 2 full backup sets from Weeks 2 & 3, each comprising of 1 full backup and 6 differential backups and 1 full backup from week4.

Could someone please advise how such a backup scenario be scheduled using True Image 2014.

An early response shall be highly valued.

Best regards

Deepak

Yes, you can do exactly what you are asking with the exception that the program will always create the replacement before deleting the oldest so you must always provide enough extra space to enable the full to be created first.

Review link 2 below and follow the green colored link. Review illustration 11-Diff. That example is keeping 6 diff in each chain and keeping 4 chains of 7 files per chain so this example shows retention of 28 (actually 29 as the next new full is made before the oldest chains is deleted) backups. Change my example of 4 to 3 and the newest 22 (newest 3 chains + next full) would be kept. The automataic cleanup illlustrated by my example matches your examplel and controlled by how many "X" numer of recent version chains.

If your backup type is by selection all individusl partitions, I would encourage you to switch to a"disk image" or disk mode" backups. This is illustrated (and text) in the very first picture of link 2 below.

When creating the new task, point the new storage folder to a new and empty storage folder or sub-folder so no mixing with other backup files.

I would discourge any editing of exiting backup tasks. When a change of tasks is needed (except for schedule changes), stop using the old task and create a new task.

A complete review of link 2 would be helpful and a review of link 3 as well if your are new to TrueImage

Note, your only melthod of having the fulll on Sunday or any specific day is to create the task and do the first Full on Sundayl. The start of the chain wil be the day you create the first backup and the first wll always be a full.
