Cannot recover to SATA drive

I am using True Image 2010. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition SP3. I backed up the IDE drive and wanted to restore it to a SATA drive. However whenever I attempt to restore to the SATA that drive is greyed out. It doesn't matter if I go through windows or the CD..same thing happens. I cannot figure out how to resolve this.

Thank you for reporting about the issue, let me help you with it!

Target partition can be greyed out for several reasons, so let's check all of them. First of all, please kindly make sure that the image of the IDE drive you have is smaller than the capacity of the SATA drive. In case there is enough space on the SATA drive, we will need to take a closer look at the issue, so could you please kindly send us the following:

  1. Please attach the SATA drive to the machine and take screenshot of the drives from Disk Management (Right click on My computer -> Manage -> Disk Management).
  2. Please download Acronis Report utility  and run it with SATA drive attached, create a report and send it to us? Please compress the Acronis Report output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your message by browsing for the archive.
    This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.
  3. Please follow the below instructions in order to create a Windows system information file on your machine; it will help us investigate the problem more thoroughly:

    - Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
    - Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";
    - Send us the saved file.

I would also like to ask you to please note that in case you are going to recover onto the dissimilar hardware (from IDE to SATA)  you will need to add the drivers for SATA as far as it has different controller and after recovery you system will not boot without it. For this you need Acronis Universal Restore. Acronis Universal Restore is a special add-on for corporate versions of Acronis True Image that allows you to restore your images to dissimilar hardware.

Unfortunately there is no Acronis Universal Restore add-on for Acronis True Image Home 2010, but we have it in Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack edition. I would also advise you to take a look at this detailed Acronis Universal Restore User's Guide with the step-by-step screenshots.
