Hi,
We're looking for a backup solution for the the below. The solution should include de-duplication and universal restore licensing. We've asked two suppliers for an Acronis solution and they have replied with different licensing solutions. Is anyone able to advise what the actual licensing requirements are for each site?

Site 1
1 x Physical Windows Machine
1 x Physical VMWare ESXi Machine - 2 CPUs (free version of VMWare ESXi without vCenter):
1 x Virtual Microsoft Exchange Server
1 x Virtual Microsoft Active Directory Server
1 x Virtual Sharepoint Server
4 x Virtual Other Windows Server

Site 2
1 x Physical Windows Machine
1 x Physical VMWare ESXi Machine - 2 CPUs (free version of VMWare ESXi without vCenter):
1 x Virtual Microsoft Exchange Server
1 x Virtual Microsoft Active Directory Server
1 x Virtual Sharepoint Server
2 x Virtual Other Windows Server

Other Requirments
- Backups should be centrally managed at each site.
- Exchange granular level backup not required
- File level backup and restore must be available for all Windows machines.
- Must support de-duplicated backup of virtual machines
- Must support virtual machine backup to encrypted de-duplication vaults.
- Must support virtual machine backup to encrypted backup images.

Hi niallr,
For each ESXi host you need one Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Virtual Edition for VMware vSphere + Deduplication license. Free ESXi does not support agent-less backup. You will need to install Agent for Windows in each guest system.

Exchange will be protected with VSS-aware image backup. You may want to install Agent for Exchange on the Exchange Server. It will enable granular restore, truncate logs etc. But it requires an additional Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server license.

For each physical Windows machine, you need one Advanced Server or Advanced Workstation license, depending on the OS they are running. If you want their backups to be deduplicated, add a deduplication license as well.

Encrypted backups cannot be deduplicated. Either you have an encrypted deduplicating vault, or encrypt your images but do not deduplicate them. The 2nd does not require a deduplication license.
