Version 2014 (6673) Crashes on Lenovo Notebook X240 or L540 with SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi everybody

When I do a backup from a Lenovo X240 or L540 Notebook with True Image 2014 (on CD or USB Stick, doesn't matter) the back process stops short before finishing and True Image 2014 crashes. The Notebook reboots immediately after crashing and no backup is written.

Interesting to say, that with a Lenovo T520 or X220 or with a Lenovo Desktop (M72e, Edge72, M55, M57, M82) True Image 2014 is working. Only all X240 and L540 (dozens here) it's not working. I also have to note, that Version 2013 is working correctly (but not sold anymore).

Sadly Acronis Customer support tried to inform me, that I need to buy for each Notebook a Acronis License instead of investigating the problems with new Lenovo Notebooks. Sorry, I am not going to buy additional licenses before the problems of backup and recovery are solved.

Does anybody has the same problems?

Simon

If I am not mistaken both troublesome notebooks (Lenovo X240 and L540) unlike all other machines are based on the mobile versions of the 4th generation Intel Core CPU – the Haswell Processors. I have got almost the same things with my new desktop (ASUS Z87-Pro MB and Intel Core i5-4670 CPU). The system runs Windows 7 Ultimate and looks quite stable. It has been working since the last October without any BSODs, hangings, spontaneous reboots etc. I have not got any problems with previous build of ATIH 2014 bootable media as well. Recently I have updated ATIH 2014 and its bootable media to the build of 6673 and just after that met the following unpleasant things. I load ATIH using a USB flash stick prepared with help of Windows version of the program. Approximately one load in a ten is unsuccessful followed by reboot of the system. In addition I observed spontaneous reboots just before completion backup/restore operation as well (about one faulty operation in a ten successful ones). Possibly the latest bootable media of ATIH is not friend with Haswell based systems. :)

For sure, my statistics is not completed and it should be confirmed by other users.

I have performed testing of my desktop. It seems there are no problems except the problem, mentioned in my previous post.
Has anybody else observed the spontaneous reboots using ATIH 2014 bootable media (build 6673) on Haswell CPU based systems?

If you all are using the Intel RST drivers you should update those drivers to the latest version 12.9.0.1001 and see if your issues go away.

Are RST drivers within OS Windows on my desktop connected in any way with ATIH bootable media? The problem concerns solely the latest build of the media. Windows version of ATIH runs on my system without problems.

No, the Intel RST drivers would only be present if you are running an Intel based machine and then only within Windows. The bootable media being Linux based uses appropriate Linus based drivers.

Having said that there might well be something going on with the Linux drivers at times with your system. Your reboot issue could also be video driver related as well. Have you tested your RAM memory? It would be a good idea to do that as often infrequent crashes are memory based. You can download the Memtest 86+ utility from Passmark to perform a full test of your RAM here: http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

First of all I performed testing of the memory. Memtest86 V. 5.0.0 as well as memtest86+ V5.01 were used for that. They weren't able to find something abnormal there. Then I tested CPU with prime95 and carried out some other tests. No problems were found. There is possibly some sort of incompatibility between the bootable media and the system based on the 4th generation Intel CPU. At least Simon, author of this topic reported on similar problems on such notebooks.

Mr. Owl,

Your comments are well taken. It might well be that the Haswell generation has some incompatibility with the drivers used on the bootable media. That possibility would best be addressed by the Linux community. I am not sure but I believe that the underlying kernel used in the TI product is BUSYBOX. If there are some Linux folks out there reading this maybe they can chime in here.

Not sure if it helps but I can not use the recovery disk to backup my Lenovo Helix unless I uncheck the weird 7GB partition on the SSD. if I don't, it gets to that partition last and simply reboots I have another thread going on that. When I try to backup with the OS (8.1) up, it says that partition requires a sector by sector backup.
