OK new to this and need some help

Thread needs solution

so currently I have set a custom backup scheme for just home use as I hate win restore as it really never fully restores you (backdates stuff to a point where x program was removed but now it is back in you program list even though the files for x program are gone so now you have to reinstall x program just to remove it again etc...). so after a clean install I am ready to use this new software and a 2tb disk as dedicated backup so I never have to fully restore or lose crap again.

so I have set an incremental backup with a full backup (first backup) to never be removed so I can always go back to it. then to make a full backup every 5 incrementals and then delete is as it goes along. I have it set to back up every mon wed fri at midnight.

I thought I was set and this would be the way to go and now I am reading here about how differential is better (maybe) and that disk copying is better/safer than partition copying etc. so before too much of this chain has been backed up and my clean blank install to back up (most up to date win and drivers etc but no extra programs or files).

for my system
1tb western digital black drive running win 8.1 in GUID mode and all my files and programs I use (and even then have a lot of room as I keep it to a min (197gb used)).
1 2tb western digital green drive used just for back up and program install software for programs purchases online and no cd/dvd.

what would the most ideal setup be?

my goal is to have one image to go back to exactly how it is now (so a worst case scenario restore would be here (fully updated win and drivers + most basic programs used)) so I need one full back up to here to never be deleted.

from here I want easy restore point with periodic full version to go back to in case a virus pops up later or something unforeseen.

so is diff better than incremental? do I want disk copy or all my partition copy (ex: the c: drive plus its recovery partition and fat32 partition, not really sure what those sectors do in GUID so I just backed em up anyway).

any help from the pros and IT guys and if I need two or three schemes so be it I have the space, just help me understand how to set it up and the idea/goal behind it and I am truly thankful.

thanks guys

Well we all know what opinions are worth right! Lol, sounds like you desire to have a backup of your original install, good choice, to accomplish that you just need to make a one time disk mode backup saved to folder all by itself. Next you set up a schedule to do another full disk mode backup to a different folder than the original folder used for the first one followed by ???

Just opinion but I believe that when doing backups of entire disks a differential is the best for a number of reasons I will not discuss here. I would keep no more than 5 version chains before consolidation and the next backup chain of 5. Make sure you have automatic clean up selected in your backup scheme. I believe if I understand you correctly this would get you where you want to be but again just my opinion!
